Yeah, pixels are showing, even in internet size. Unfortunately, no matter how sharp you focus if you're too far away you can't crop. That's why, if you do enough of this kind of shooting, you'll end up spending mega-bucks on a long lens.

Well, it IS a grey bird. Things are complicated by it being backlit. You might raise the overall level and then increase the contrast a bunch.

thanks, played around with it a bit more, it just becomes less believable when i tinker with the lighting.

I lik this one though, I caught the bird just pulling the thing ouf of the ground then throwing it into it's open mouth, thought it was unique. And the bird is that red and white in real life, not too much editing done. Nature has amazing colours.

That's a great shot. The action is fantastic and you didn't blow out the white feathers and still got the orange bill nice and orange. Well done.

Well since we are showing Herons/Storks/Egrets here is my shot of a Great Egret in their nesting area about 1/4 mile from my house(why do i get the feeling the weather is becoming better with all the beach/water type shots lately):

It was actually dry and sunny, so I blocked the sunshine and water is sprayed on.

I like it, the color makes it interesting. It definitely informs the viewer of the time of day.

I think both are too much and neither is a natural sunset color (mauve and pink?).

hahaha i'm a bit coloblind!! I know i just didn't want the "standard" sunset colors. The true original is like the previous pic with the rock..

I'll give it another shot later.. off to play pool

Yeah, the idea is good, panicos. Just play with different hues. Maybe something a little warmer. Otherwise it's a nice shot. It definitely has potential.

This is how close I got to the ocean with a 10mm without getting wet shoes - but it was close.

great shots folks. I don't think the sunset colours should matter too much as it is the silhouette you're going for. As long as it isn't an offensive colour, all is well

Can't beat wet feet (or nearly wet) for the perfect water shots that's how I got the bird throwing the fish into it's mouth, I was on one knee in the water and hoping that I didn't lose balance with the 70-200 F2.8 on that would have been an expensive mistake.

hahaha yeah when the first wave came i was kind of shocked, but then i said what the hell. i like this pic so it was worth it.. i like your pic as well so that was worth it also
i'm thinking of going back there again with my kid nephews small rubber boat.. i would love to catch these guys with the sun directly behind them or the sunset line in the water.. but the water is too cold and if i fall cannot afford to lose my camera even if its just a d5100!!
