I don't love the gaping rectangle of a front air dam, but don't hate it either. Still not as offensive as the new 4 series lol.

My parents lived in a relatively yuppie-filled condo complex in the 90s where I spent a decent amount of my formative years and I had one young male neighbour in particular who had a beautiful 300ZX in red before he eventually bought a then-new E46 M3.

This helped fuel my teenage obsession through the 00's with the 350Z/G35/Skyline, so this redesign is giving me a lot of nostalgia.

Just the fact that it's a twin turbo V6 means if everything else was kept constant, it's going to be noticeably heavier. Cast manifolds, two turbos, all the associated piping and intercooler(s), etc.

Add in new crash standards and such, I won't be surprised to see it 150 lbs heavier than the 370Z. As long as it has enough space for monster rubber and enough brake, I don't see it as that big of a deal.

EDIT: But I'm really disappointed because at first they made it sound like it might go on sale late next year, now it's sounding like late 2022 at the earliest.

Supposedly it will use carbon fiber, but to what extent and will that be enough to offset everything you listed? We shall see.

The company that brought us the fat af GTR a decade ago and hasn't made any efforts to slim it down sure isn't going to make any efforts to make the Z light. Thing will be a pig.

Not if they want to keep it somewhat affordable.

From what I understand, like the 2nd-gen BRZ is just the 1st-gen underneath with a new engine and bodywork..........the new Z is basically a 370Z underneath with a new engine and bodywork.

Nissan said they found a way to mass produced carbon fiber for less.

Not to sure about the BRZ. We need more info before saying its just a reskin 1st gen with a 2.4. Right, not saying it won't be as stated in my OP, but you can use an existing chassis and switch up some components. Right now it's just a guessing game, we shall see.

Have a link to any of this?

All I'm seeing is the mention of visual pieces using carbon fiber. Like winglets or a diffuser. Not anything that is going to make any difference when it comes to the weight of the car.

Nice, but nothing about use in the Z. From the first article you linked.

"Nissan is still tweaking the Compression RTM process, but expects CFRP will show up in unsexy parts like B-pillars as early as their 2024 model year."

So unlikely to have any impact on the Z.

Really it is just posting about their so called low cost CF, it does not specify where it will be used, perhaps wishes and who knows at this point, if the launch is delayed to 2022 its for sure still possible.

Unlike the new m3/m4 platform the more I look at this car the more I'm beginning to like it. The proportions looks so good.

the only things I dislike about the car is the door handle - There's some weird double outline of the car handle and the panel layout of the a pillar / door / front fender. It has this weird zig zaggy section where those parts all meet together. I think that's the ugliest part of the car.

^I think one of them said the final door handles will look more like 370z's.

Minor, but on the top of my head I can find two. There are side markers on the rear bumper and what appears to be a sensor in the middle of the bottom of the grille.

Did not notice the side markers on the rear bumper...I really don't like how they break up that nice bumper-fender line!
