No Alfa for Mick S.

Looks like Kimi and Giovi are remaining at Alfa for '21 and Schumacher will have to wait more.

Schumacher and Perez for HAAS.

Mick for the name/PR - Perez for the dollar!

Albon might survive for another season at this rate - doesn't deserve to but can't see Hulkenberg doing any better....

Ferrari engined Haas may be Mick's saviour with big sponsor carrying Perez, looks a good fan's choice.

Agreed.

And they will get Mick for cheap and Perez will pay for himself essentially and then some.

I'd rather have Mick wait another year than end up at Haas.

Errrr... I don't know. I would love to see him in that car.

On the Sky Sports F1 broadcast they said something about Mick going to Haas.

From what I've been reading, its supposedly Mick and Nikita Mazepin for the second seat. Mick brings the engine discount and is very marketable given his surname. Mazepin purely for the money.

I dont like the idea of Mazepin in the second seat, but the reasoning I've heard makes sense. The revenue that teams are set to get next year is set to be about 50% less than normal, which will put a burden on the teams further down the field. It's widely accepted that HAAS runs their team with the smallest budget. Their budget is actually so low that they wouldnt even reach the cost cap that is coming into effect next season. Extra cash would be welcomed by the team.

There's also the Russian GP connection. The promoters of the race are keen to have a russian on the grid, as is Putin. If Kvyat is set to be dropped from AT as is widely reported, then Mazepin would fill that void quite nicely. I know this particular point sounds a bit less concrete, but it's already happened once in the past when Sirotkin was signed by Williams for 2018. Kvyat was dropped at the end of 2017, so SMP funded his seat at Williams. If I remember correctly, they had to increase the amount they were initially willing to pay to get him the seat as there were other better candidates. And it just so happens that the owner of SMP racing is the owner of SMP Bank (Boris Rotenberg), who is very cozy with Putin. Most of the wealthy oligarchs in Russia have some sort of connection to Putin, so it wouldnt be that farfetched for Uralkali (Mazepin's fathers source of wealth) to invest heavily into getting Mazepin into HAAS.

Will be interesting to see what happens, but stranger things have happened in F1.....

While that might an option, albeit a bad one, the Super License expires if the driver is unable to race competitively in F1.

Haas is probably Mick's best option in 2021 in case the driver market blows up again.

If the guy is good he will shine...regardless of the car.
Target for new drivers is always - beat your team mate.
Does he deserve a better seat? Haven't followed the guy in the lower formula.

Totally agree, team mate is the best measure, if his teammate ends up being Mazepin, I don't think Mick is going to have an issue beating his teammate.

Does he deserve a better seat? Mick was a slow starter in F3 and F2. To be honest, I didn't think he would actually make it to F1. He needed a lot of time to learn the car (arguable one of the top team) and it took him over a year in each formula before he started producing results.
  • F3 2017 - 12th
  • F3 2018 - 1st
  • F2 2019 - 12th
  • F2 2020 - 1st*

Not to take away from his achievements because he won F3 and he's on his way to take F2. But George Russel took the F2 championship and Lando took 2nd their first year respectively. I don't know if he would've gotten to where he was without the Schumacher name and the Ferrari backing.

Only time will tell if Ferrari will kick out Sainz to make room for Schumi Jr.
