Pistol Carry while driving.

Any one rig up something easily accessible?

I was thinking low thigh holster maybe.. I'd hate to my pistol sliding around in the galco on the leather passenger seat..

I have a tiny .380 in a soft/padded case that I put full-forward in the door pocket, handle-up and facing rearward.

I used to have a pickup that I bolted a plastic holster to the underside of the steering column, at an angle so that the barrel was facing diagonally toward the front/left tire. That setup made it very accessible in a discreet manner. In the case of being carjacked, the driver can access it without an overt body movement that would tip off the assailant.

Bottom line is you need it to be accessible or it is useless in the case of an emergency. Chances are you won't think or react quickly enough to reach all the way over to the glove compartment, for example.

I'm right handed.. .I feel like getting it with the left will take to long. I do practice left handed shooting but when shit hit the fan I want old righty in charge.. anyone else try anything unique?

What do you mean by "for real?" What part of the discussion do you find hard to believe, and why?

Despite the negative image perpetuated by the media and Hollywood, handguns are a legal product and are an effective and legitimate self-defense tool. Part of safe gun handling is to have an aware, educated user with a well thought-out carrying plan. Leon, as a conscientious handgun owner is demonstrating responsible gun ownership by thinking ahead of time how is going to transport his firearm in a legal and effective manner (as opposed to an ignorant owner who might just leave it loose on the passenger seat). Likewise, the carrying suggestions I enumerated are in consideration of ease of access and safety (in terms of where the barrel is pointed, away from the occupants, and how the driver will be able to access the weapon quickly in the case of an attacker).

We are not talking about sex or violence or drugs or other "adult things." What is so off-putting about a handgun discussion? In fact, gun ownership and handling is a hobby that is very family-oriented indeed. In what states are you permitted to drive while packing heat? I thought it had to be in the trunk and locked up.

In VA with a concealed handgun permit you can carry concealed while driving. My permit also works in about 20 other states.

Probably should mention since you are in MD, that it is VERY VERY VERY difficult to get a concealed carry permit in MD. You have to show extreme justification, such as you've been robbed, shot, attacked multiple times. My permit is not valid in MD to travel through MD I'd have to obey their laws and properly transport the firearm in the trunk separate from the ammo etc.

lol there is more negative attention to be had by people posting video/picture of their illegal racing/reckless driving.

What I am asking is about is lawful and specific to this vehicle type in the sense of custom mounted solutions.

Yeah, a gun forum might be an OK place to ask the question, but the best spot to transport a handgun is very car-specific. It is better to ask other BMW owners who also own and transport guns.

I am licensed to carry a concealed handgun in Texas, and (of course) to carry in my car. Pretty much every adult in Texas is entitled to take the course to be certified (with certain logical exceptions, of course).

In Dist. of Columbia v. Heller, the U.S. Supreme Court recently struck down DC's overbearing handgun ownership restrictions and upheld the Constitutional right of individuals to keep and bear arms under the 2nd Amendment. So, look for other states to act in accordance with this ruling.

I don't see what the big deal is. The OP is in Virginia. What he is asking is perfectly legal in Virginia. It's not like he's asking where to mount a radar detector!

I carry my G23 right-side in an IWB holster, pretty much right at the hip, and it is comfortable in the 335i sports seats, even on long drives. I think it depends more on where you place the sidearm though. Mine is always covered with a garment, so it never rubs directly on the leather. I've noticed no additional wear in that portion of the seat bolster.

Check out this Desantis holster, they even show it in a BMW, and an ///M car too! (At least based on the ///M tag on the steering wheel. ///M5?)
