BMW CCA membership worth it?

Who is a member and is it worth it?

I've been thinking about joining, but the benefits aren't clear. Would love to hear from current/previous members.

Yes. It is worth it. The vehicle rebates alone pay for the membership.

In addition, the discounts we get make it worth it as well. We also do a good amount of autocross nowadays and our chapter has a very active program.

It is definitely worth it, but I am biased since I've been a member for 37 years. With rebates, dealer discounts, repair shop discounts, parts discounts, etc., you can get way more than your membership money back.

Worth it, purchase discount and discount on performance driving school pays for several years of memberships.

Discounts on repairs and parts! Just what every BMW out-of-warranty owner needs.

Are these discounts only through dealers or them and specific BMW CCA member shops (and how do you find shops that are ... didn't see a listing on their website)?

Membership pays for itself and then some annually for those outside of a service plan or warranty.

I'm sure it varies greatly by geographic location, but in my area our dealers give 15% discount on parts and service. In addition, we have at least a half doze independent shops that give 10-15% discounts on either parts or labor or both. A 15% discount on $325 will pay your annual membership. The $500 rebate on a new car purchase will pay your membership for 10 years.

I got a new 325iS for just $25, two $500 rebates, discounts on parts, and lots of technical help through the BMWCCA. I would say that it is worth the cost.

Only if I go to the events. I am currently not a member but may join again if I see something I want to do.

I don't buy BMW's new, I don't get them worked on at the dealership and I don't buy my parts at the dealership. Then at $48 a year, I would need to spend $480 a year at the dealership to break even, have to do it for other reasons.

10%-15% off on the dealerships parts and service is still a bad deal.

Assuming you're in the ATL, check out your local chapter: http://www.peachtreebmwcca.org/

They seem to be pretty active with events, especially with Petit LeMans coming up at Road Atlanta.

Many dealers and independent shops will offer CCA discounts, but it can vary significantly and change all the time. Your best bet is to always call them directly to see what they offer for parts and/or service discounts.

But as others have said above, the monetary savings is more than enough to justify membership. However, the people, resources, and events are really what makes the club.

I was a member for the year. Magazine was meh, and none of the discounts apply to me. I only got it to go to the events and I never ended up doing any with my busy schedule. So no renewal for me.

Tech Sessions if your section runs them well and if you like working on your car are by themselves worth the fee.

The club Magazine has a good tech Q&A column and sometimes some good tech articles.

I used to belong - but at first tech sessions attended I was the first person to arrive and demoted to one of the last to get my car on a lift. F that and decided to let my membership expire.

Also at the tech session they have a dealership employee drive your car onto the lift, some service writer kind of dork like 6'2" and carrying 70 extra pounds of adipose, instead of getting into my car like a normal person, freakin drops into my seat from a standing position - dumb piece of lard, he was such a dope saying anything to him was futile.

I think so and here are my reasons why.

1. Vehicle rebate. It'll easily pay for the membership.
2. Discounts on other stuff is pretty good. You can see a list on the website.
3. Paid membership seems to eliminate the riff raff. Went on a cruise with another group and it was a shit show. Passing double yellow, driving like jackasses, no one had a clue where we were going, etc. The CCA cruises are lot more buttoned up and respectful.
4. Lots of knowledge in the member base, especially for DIY stuff.

I think it really depends what chapter you are in.

For here, all the autocross events are a 2 hour drive away. The drives and other gatherings are things you can normally just do yourself or with a group of friends. I guess they can be good to meet other enthusiasts if you don't have a core group of car friends.

The shop discounts are rather worthless if you do your own work as parts are cheaper online. 10% off won't help much unless you're spending a lot of money on repairs/maintenance.

Otherwise, the car discount is worth it if you're planning to buy a new car.

As I said, other areas may be better but not worth it for me.

For these reasons it might make sense and I think you should do it. I went to a go cart track with them and it was a lot of fun. Worst case is you decide not to do it next year. Small amount of money and possibly a good way to meet some people with similar interests.

Unless you are planning on going to the school (maybe etc.) there are better credit cards out there.
