E30 M3 Asking Too Much?

I was looking at earlier BMW models and stumbled upon this.

I know that E30 M3s are very sought after for their sublime driving experience along with the fact that it was the first generation of the M3. However, i always thought that prices for these were around 20 to 30 grand depending on condition. This example,in my opinion, is immaculate but the asking price is outrageous. $65,000 is enough to put somebody into a F80/F82 or an E90/E92 with lots of room for modifications. Does anyone feel like this guy's asking price just ridiculous or is the E30 really that captivating?

$65,000 is a very fair price tbh.

There was one local here that sold for in the low $100's recently, but it had like 15k miles on it.

Do not look at 993 Turbo/Turbo S pricing

Pretty sure for $20-$30k you'd end up with a very expensive restoration project.

Also, it has nothing to do with the fact that it is so captivating. It's a collector. Not -many- people drive these things -- it'll likely just sit and be driven on the rare occasion.

You're not the right audience for this car. You don't need to modify perfection.

All joking aside, modern day Ferrari's (even the lowly California) will run circles and then some around say, a 250GTO. Yet a 250GTO will fetch Mid-8 figure for a CRASHED and rebuilt one (granted it was Sterling Moss' 250GTO).

These cars (E30 M3s) are approaching "collector" status. You don't buy it because of it's "room for modification." And if you have to compare it to buying an E9X M3 for the price...Well, walk away. This car is not for you.

Well, looks like e30 m3s are really that sought after then and would explain why it's so difficult to even come across one that isn't running.

Now, I understand this train of thinking. For a newer and modern car, I feel as though modifications are very gratifying especially since newer cars tend to be the ones driven and experienced most of the time. If I bought a car like this which would be more of s collector's item, I would keep the modifications only within the perimeters of what the original equipment manufacturer provided during the time of its production.

1) you need to see car in person. Immaculate means nothing though a BMW sanctioned concour judge rating means something.

2) do you think the car will maintain it's value in the future? Or if economic conditions change will the value drop?

I wouldn't justify $65k for an E30. Just buy an E46 M3, then you have $50k left over for crazy track mods. The Porsche 993 is also sky rocketing, I want an RWB 993 so bad.

Agreed... totally.. from one bubble to the next. Its just that in my humble opinion we are approaching "full retard" if not there already.

Waiting on that next crash to scoop up stuff as well I picked up my M for cheap last go round..

it's not that....it's simply a supply demand curve. Many people such as myself grew up wanting an E30 M3. Now that we have money we go after them....I chose to go after a 1M instead though. People spend money on what they want.....it's not engineered by anyone, really.

Collector cars have existed since the automotive industry matured at 20 years. This isn't a new revelation or some sort of society conspiracy theory; it's basic supply and demand.

The E30 is a bonafide collector car already. There are far too many of them produced to ever be uber amounts of money----but they will continue to appreciate surely.

Not only is the example you posted immaculate, and low mileage, but it's also in arguably the most desirable color combination possible. I'd say that price is right where it should be.

I agree though in the last three years as money has returned to the economy -- the value has risen at an insane level that simply cannot continue long term. I.e., bubble. It'll pop -- decline and then go back up. Over time I think it'll continue to appreciate but it'll take a fall for it to eventually level back to a more normal linear curve. Oh, and it's totally engineered.

Well let's see... it's an E30... going for FAR more than a comparable E46M3... hell E90 M3 would go for...

YES!! ..... the E30 M3 REALLY is that captivating. Not many E36 and E46 owners can get beyond the " lack of power",
however, the E30 M3 is simply sublime. The only thing better would be a genuine Sport Evo. As far as the car in the ad.. That example has very low mileage at 77K and looks to be in excellent condition.

Not really.

I don't know if you've ever driven one but they are sublime in every sense of the word. It is truly a racer for the street.

I have driven it as well as the MBZ 190E 2.3 16, it's contemporary, and there is no contest. While both are amazing cars, the balanced handling of the M3 is head and shoulders above the MBZ. Just my .02.

It is near the top of my car regret list.

If you want an e30 experience for cheaper, as newer M3 is not that. Modern M3's have little to nothing to do with the original, outside of the badge.

A far more comparable experience would be a BRZ or ND miata.

I had am Alpineweiss E30 M3.... wish I still had it! $65,000 seems high. the low mileage is great though...I wonder where the rest of the air box is though???
They are GREAT cars though. Sure they can't outrun any newer M3, but they can damn well out handle them. Its a great drivers car.
The prices have gone crazy on them the last year and IMO that car is more $55,000 than $65 but it WILL SELL!
