Car was shot overnight

Going to get this repaired at a collision center this week. Does anyone know if this fix will require a new door skin?

I'm not sure I would fix it, it's kinda cool. Stick an ear plug in there to keep the water out on a rainy day.

I'll bet that was an interesting conversation with your insurance adjuster?
I doubt you will get a new door skin and if it was my car I wouldn't want one as any trained eye can generally detect a reskined door. I would demand a welded metal repair and not a Bondo job. This will require stripping the door due to welding They should cut out the damage and weld a plug in completely, followed by metal finishing. Good luck.

No clue what happened. Pretty much I walked out of my apartment complex and noticed a bullet impact. Called law enforcement for my insurance and got a case number. The officer and I tried to look for the bullet head or casing but no luck. But technically the bullet could still be inside my door. Hopefully, I wasn't being targeted or anything lmao.

Nah no road rage, the car was parked overnight, I was just the unlucky guy that got hit.

Looks normal from the inside as far as I know. Couldn't find the head of the bullet anywhere or any penetration impacts.

Very interesting conversation, they probably think I'm part of a drive-by gang shooting lmao.

My Dealers policy is that they only replace. They do it repair.

Maybe the op's dealer's policy is why the car shot at in the first place?

Jk, hope it works out, I hope they don't go the bondo route and do a proper repair.

If the door is aluminum, it needs to be replaced. If it's steel and the intrusion beam hasn't been hit, technically it can be folded back, welded up, and filler used to reshape it fully. it's not on a body line, which makes it pretty easy. Again, if it's steel.

If the intrusion beam is hit, it's done and needs to be replaced. you can't repair intrusion beams (structural cross beam across the inside of the door).

Depending on your insurance and the shop, you can push to get that replaced.

Here's what will happen if you repair it.
Paint blended into the fender, bumper dropped, headlight removed, door taken apart, welded, fixed, painted and blended within the door.

If you replace it, all the above plus they will have to blend the paint into the rear door, in which they'll take the rear door apart to do that, sacrificing factory paint.

Both have their pro's and cons. I would prefer replacing the door.

EDIT: Have them check the back side of the trim panel, while the bullet may not have gone through, it could have damaged the back side of your trim panel on it's way in, or bounced around.
