$500- Metallic Paint
$1450-Leather(b/c god forbid you buy your first bmw without leather...right)
$595- Destination and Handling

Were looking at $30,840. Thats for a car that does not have a sport package or items from the premium package such as power seats or a digital compass.

What do you guys think a typical 128i would come in at with typical options?? My guess is at least $31,000. And thats if it starts at $27,000.
add premium package to that, and you're close

Seve, have you actually used that stuff before? If so does it really smell like new car leather? I've tried some other things and they never smelled right to me.

Your so right. I dont think anything can mimic the real "new leather smell" I read something a few months ago that explains what that is and its really not good for you...oh well I love it. Any input Seve?

You are right we had a post on G35driver about it. It has to do with the release of the chemicals from the interior. Probably causes cancer like everything else, but I don't care it smells great haha.

I've heard good stuff about the Zaino leather, but i've never used it. I use Lexol and it works well, but the smell is definitely not new car smell.

The WRX is approx $24k and the STi is approx $32k

I have nothing to support my theory. Just a guess. The horsepower figures are similar.
Im sorry, but you are out of your mind if you think BMW is going to make a 24k car.

MAYBE 27K, but nothing less than that. otherwise, i would be singing to the heavens.

Mine will probably be like this (unless i buy a 135i):

Base Price: $27,000
Destination: $775
Metallic Paint: $475
Sport Package: $1500
Comfort Access: $500
Power Seats: $995
Xenon Headlights: $700
Cold Weather Package: $750
iPod/USB: $400
Optioned Price: $33,095

And in reality, it will be $32,320...Because I dont care what kind of car it is, i will NEVER pay a car dealer to ship it's own damn cars the dealer, they can kiss my ass. I have never paid it and i never will.

Hmm, that is interesting any particular way you negotiate that? Or do you just say not paying it take it or leave it?

I just simply explain to them that i will not pay it, they want to sell cars.

If you just stand up and say thats the way it is, i will buy the car RIGHT NOW if you give me what i want. They hardly ever turn you down.

Another good tactic i like to use is the internet. I get online and email 2 to 4 dealers, get quotes from all of them. Then i take the lowest quote and give it to all the other dealers, I tell them if they can beat it, i will buy from them.

They will usually do what you want. Even if you want to order an exact car, you just start with the quotes, and then whoever is the lowest, just go in, sign the papers, and order your car from them.

Or when i really feel like getting dirty, i go and find the newest salesman i can, with little or no sales...he will ALWAYS cut you a deal, because he is trying to build a repuation and sell his first cars....its a mean thing to do, but oh well. They'll get over it. (This is the approach i used for my 335i coupe, I got it for 1000 under MSRP, special ordered, with Euro Delivery, it was great)

Dunno yet, but it still pays to get the lowest possible price on the car when you lease. I like getting new cars too often to buy a car. The hit I would take would not be worth it since I get a new car every 3 years so we'll see. Lower price would equate to lower payment given the same residual value. It is horrible to negotiate a car on monthly payment regardless of how you finance the car.

Trust me I know the drill. I was brought up to never pay sticker...lol In the past 12 years the parents have had 3 Mercedes and 2 BMW's. Never paid sticker for any of them. My dads methods are almost 100% similiar to HH's ^^. Its painful to watch. I'm not paying sticker for my 1 next summer. Euro delivery here I come!!!

Very true, I like to get new cars every 3-4 years as well.

Im glad someone besides me realizes the harm in negotiating on payment alone, dealerships can really screw you in the end if you dont know what you are paying.

One of my female friends took me with her to a dealer when she bought a 2007 Civic EX(which is actually a very cool car btw), she had a deal worked up and wanted me to take a look at it.

They screwed her over so bad, she was going to end up paying 31,500 for a 20k car. Needless to say, she got out of there alot better than that, and i got her finance amount dropped by about 5000, and her monthly payment dropped by about 85.00....and i got some lovin.

Good advice. Thanks!

I've added a few more thoughts below:

Normally only the sales manager or above has the authority to set prices, but in the case of a new saleman the management will sometimes allow a low price on their first sale to get them started. The salesman is normally just a go-between on the price, although this varies widely by dealership and is also based upon seniority. Basically the management is trying to maximize profit, but they will let some cars go at or below cost as long as they make a certain average amount of profit per vehicle. My fear is that the 135i will be hot and it will be more difficult to get a deal on the car.

Another good tactic is to buy at the end of a month. Dealers are normally given targets and will sometimes give really great deals in the eleventh hour in order to hit a particular target. Of course as you mentioned the Internet has definitely leveled the playing field and information is your friend when purchasing.

That said a good saleman can really make for a better experience. My favorite car deals have been with salesmen that were enthusiasts and raced on the side. The test drives were a blast to say the least. The poster that runs the EDbmw website seems like someone that might be a good person to deal with if you are interested in the ED program.

NOTE: ED stands for European Delivery not the other ED where you need Viagra.

Hey isn't this "THE TYPICAL 128i buyer" thread? Sorry to get off track.

However, once the 1er coupe is available it might be helpful to setup a discussion group dealing with sales.

I think we definitely to have a negotiated deal/dealer discussion thread so we can help each other get the lowest prices possible when that time comes around.

Good idea. When someone creates such a thread in the Ordering Discussion Forum, I will make it a sticky thread.
