The next 2 Series Coupe will be RWD.

Maybe look at it the other way around: the M2 might be the only reason the next 2 Series Coupe will still be RWD and not FWD as well, so they can keep making the M2.

And, for a coupe, people care much less about rear-seat passenger space. If BMW introduced a RWD 2GC with absolutely ridiculous rear-seat space, people would be just as grumpy. They just can't win.

I understand that this sucks for all the small sedan/lift-back lovers in the US, but at least BMW keeps the RWD 2er Coupe/M2 around for now.
sorry.

Instead of being grateful for what we get ..
I demand excellence in the form of RWD coupe and RWD sedan like E30, E36,E46, and E90.

They have the i4 coming in 2021.

Any other new BEV entering development now, be it on FAAR, CLAR, or some other new vehicle architecture, has no chance of arriving ahead of that date. But, we know BMW has a lot more BEVs coming by 2023, and at this point it is anyone's guess what those will be. I maintain that any of those that might be built on FAAR will be front motor FWD (like the new MINI Cooper SE) and/or dual motor AWD.
BMW waited way too long.

I guess it's is actually good that CEO Harold is stepping-down in the grand scheme of things.

In other words.

There is still time for you to take your heads out of your arses and bring us a proper 2ER sedan ... and make it an M so we will buy it.

kinda Sucks that we have to cajole BMW into building what has been a best seller for them ?

BMW dropped that opportunity 10 years ago.

Look what they did to X1 and X2.

Sad but true unfortunately.

Strictly speaking, alright, perhaps. But it would mean a huge delay in the product's arrival, and given how much they will already have invested into the G42, it really is all but 100% certain that they'll follow through and bring it to market.

The opposite, actually. There's absolutely no chance at this point for a four-door counterpart to the G42. That ship sailed long, long ago. Per above, there's technically a tiny (microscopic, really) chance for a two-door counterpart to the F44 to take the place of the would-be G42. But like I say, that simply makes no sense - it would be insane for them to switch course and do that at this point.

Is that the new AUDI?

literally saw that they have wider front wheels and tires and it still understeers.

I miss being able to have a compact luxurious sedan that delivers thrills without breaking the bank. It seems like aside from the Alfa Giulia nobody in the market will deliver this for the foreseeable future.

Sure there's the C43, S4, and M340i. But they aren't "fun" in the way you and I view that word. I was really counting on the 2er GC to fulfill this niche.

I am hoping there are some Xdrive offerings.

After owning a Focus RS, it was heavy and AWD, but (extremely) fun.

‘If’ Xdrive is done right and paired with a manual it can be very engaging, my hope is BMW follows other makers and offers their FWD models in Xdrive and a manual.

I actually had a long conversation w/ a Giulia owner the other day. He comes from owning a long line of BMWs and Porsches. Said the best car he ever owner was an 07 Cayman but had kids, so he had to give it up. Then he said the best everyday vehicle he owned was a ZHP 330i which he missed very much since getting rid of. He's had an E30, E36, E46 and E90, but thats when he stopped. He simply disliked the F30 and loved the F22 but needed 4 doors.

He bought an Alfa Giulia Q4 and said its the best car he's had in a while and reminds him of his Cayman and ZHP. He said it really is an emotional car and just feels less electronic and more raw. Luckily he's also had no issues in 2 years and 35k miles, and his dealer is paired w/ Porsche and Maserati so loaners are no problem for him and his service department is fast.

Honestly, if you have a good Alfa Dealer Network and can get a good lease deal (I still don't know if I would buy/own one long term) the Giulia is a very enticing car. You can get a 2/3 year lease for cheap. I don't plan on getting one myself, but I am going to test drive one to see if all the wonderful things I've heard about this vehicle are true.

I doubt the manual will be offered on the 2GC seeing as the 1 series hatch in which its based off of doesn't offer one (except for lower trim non-US models), I doubt even the next generation RWD 2 series will have one as well (although I hope I am wrong). I think BMW is going to keep the manual only for the M2/3/4 at this point going forward.

Ford went their own way on the Focus RS setup. And it was a great solution. It's more likely that BMW will continue to use basic Haldex setups like the X1/X2 and Minis, being 100% fwd until slip is detected. VWAG has exclusive rights to the latest Haldex that sends a fixed rate ("greater than 10%", so likely 10.1%) to the rear.

I've driven the Golf R and Focus RS as well as a number of regular Haldex cars and the Ford setup is obviously the best, but the Golf R was noticeably nicer than the other Haldex ones and closer to the Ford than the plain Haldex setup.

BMW has been in the game for almost two decades with MINI though. They just seem to get worse every generation, which doesn't bode well for the 2GC.

The M2 is a great (but heavy) car, but like you, the current configuration doesn't work for my needs. I hold no hope of BMW building good fwd based cars though.

Porsche admits to being shocked that the manual GT4 was such a hit, they had no idea that it would be in high demand.....

In the same interview they admit they made several mistakes on cars that were for enthusiasts, demand far exceeding what they had allotted back in Germany.

These companies are not in touch the way many enthusiasts think they are, if you build a great drivers car people will buy it...ie M2

That interior looks horribly tacky. Sorry, but flat-bottom steering wheels are complete gimmicks on anything but true race cars or cars that will only be on track. Having the consistency of a circular wheel is huge when going lock-to-lock in a parking lot or counter-steering in an oversteer/drift situation. Why would anyone who likes driving want the steering wheel to change shape mid-turn?

Please, BMW, do NOT take notes from MB or this guy...

sorry but you make no sense at all bmw offers flat bottom steering wheels as a performance option.
Also the steering is so responsive you dont even have to turn the steering past 9 and 3 o clock
Say what you want but this low level C class benz has a better looking interior then all the new bmw's in my opinion besides the m850 as now they are taking notes from mercedes. hah

This right here is the closest thing BMW offers to a flat-bottom wheel and it's still more of a slightly squished circle shape rather than a true flat-bottom shape. It's optional as well and does not come as standard equipment, so they are not selling the car by using gimmicks. Porsche also understands the practicality of a round wheel as I don't believe any of their standard production cars use a flat-bottom wheel. Different strokes for different folks, I guess, but clearly MB is betting on people who like that gimmicky, tasteless interior space and not people who appreciate a functional, timeless interior space that caters to the driving enthusiast. Just my 2 cents.
