BMW M1 Successor (M10?) Halo Supercar Rumored for 2016
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW M1 Successor (M10?) Halo Supercar Rumored for 2016 The on-again-off-again BMW supercar successor to the M1 is now rumored to be coming in 2016, according to Autobild. Why so long? Because the i8 electric hybrid sportscar launches in 2014 and BMW would like to give the i8 some time on the market without any potential sales cannibalization posed by a successor to the M1. We think it's unlikely that BMW will revive the M1 nameplate, but may instead choose a previously unused and higher identifier - perhaps the M10 (which was recently trademarked). The market introduction is so far away for this potential halo sports model that engine and performance specs are mostly speculative and subject to change, but the report speculates that it may be powered by a turbocharged V8 with 600-650 horsepowers, with top speed around 330 KMH (205 MPH). Like the original M1, it would be a completely new ground-up project not based on any current BMW and will utilize conventional steel/aluminum/titanium/plastic construction, unlike the i8's more exotic carbon fiber construction. Reported target weight is in the ballpark of 2700-2800 pounds and priced around $250,000 euros. While we'd love to see these rumors and predictions come true, we'd suggest that one not bank on this coming to fruition just yet (or the particular specs), given the on-again-off-again rumormill surrounding such a model and the vast amount of time between now and the predicted release date, during which time it could be scrapped completely or its specs changed. * The image used for illustration above is an artist's render only and is not based on any particular rumors or clues as to what the successor M1 may resemble. This is the 585957394745895 times this rumor has come up, and it has been false all 585957394745895 times. I hope it's true this time around, though.

Definitely interesting. I know the M division has wanted to create their own car from the ground up, but the board has shot the idea down in the past.

Perhaps to keep the price lower and/or keep the i8 more exclusive/exotic?
Yep, but hopefully one of these years it gets the green light once and for all.

Ferrari is also sticking to aluminum for their cars instead of carbon fiber.

Its not a matter of if but when.. the Z8 was the last of their "Halo" and I was really disappointed they did not take it to another level. ///M use to be "Halo" marque but now it is used on almost everything so they really need another level vehicle. Not sure it needs to be so expensive but needs to be special.

I LOVED the M1 Homage and like the render above. It would be great to see BMW come out swinging with a halo car like this.

I'd rather see an m3 that could beat the porsche gt3rs, I feel like this will end up being useless like that super car Porsche made like 8 years ago... What was it called?

The article remains speculation but conforms to the original strategy of M-One and M-Two. BMW are not committing themselves to a high end sports car at the current time because they are developing the i8, itself a new breed of sustainable sports car which will come in Coupe and Spyder variants and give the i8 the opportunity to rewrite the sports car rules .
The i8 will possibly be one of the most (or perhaps) the most revolutionary BMW yet. There is absolutely nothing else like it and that will be its main selling point. The i8 is BMW's only sports car in actual development at the current time. But M-One and M-Two remains in discussion and creativity only. Any movement on M-One or M-Two will resolve after BMW's implemetation of CFRP in a mass volume production scenario an opportunity that will give BMW a very significant advantage over established competitors in cost effective CFRP production. Super Sports cars do not make money and currently it is not the right time to do so. BMWi is of course a full programme which contains more than just cars so that is a significant investment. BMW are currently focused on profitability and expansion with such cars such as the 3er GT , 4er Gran Coupe , BMW X vehicles including the X2 and X4 and new models for the high end premium market. Also the combined MINI/BMW UKL family which will allow MINI to become more profitable , whilst allowing BMW to enter the growing premium city car market. These models for expansion to the BMW portfolio are models that will not only increase sales but also profitability and stability to the BMW Group. That is the main priority at the current time.
