Blown away so far with the value of a 2024 Chevy Trax at just $22K. Wish it was AWD but with good all-seasons it should do just fine. It’s a second suv for us that will just be driven around town very minimally. Spacious and easily fits 2 car seats in the back, even rear facing infant behind my 6’2” seating position.

Wow is that $22K out the door or plus random fees north americans pretend don't exist? If it is out the door that is a HELL of a price.

Don't worry about AWD, honestly the most over rated feature of any car ever. Even in Canada a good set of snow tyres is more than enough to traverse ploughed roads.

MSRP of this trim with the options I got is $22,740. I got suppplier pricing that took $550 off. No excess fees.. just $250 doc fee and $35 registration. Got a reallly strong trade-in offer for our prior GMC Terrain after a lot of negotiation on that front.

I figure if we trade it in in 3yrs with 30k miles once the bumper to bumper warranty is up, it will probably be be worth $18K with inflation so $4k depreciation over 36months that’s like $100 a month including maintenance for cost of ownership.

My parents had the previous generation Trax and it was the worst car I've ever driven. I could not believe how slow it was, felt dangerous to be driving around with zero passing power.. Maybe the new one is improved but good lord that thing was slow, like 11 second 0-60 or something. This new one looks a lot bigger, theirs was like as subcompact size SUV

Hard to find a good car, new or used, for under $20k. I recently helped an employee shop. Her 2012 Ford Focus with 188k suffered a transmission failure and was not worth fixing. We looked at Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Mazda, Subaru and Honda. Could have bought a new or nearly new Kia, but instead found a 21 Civic LX, certified (1 extra year bumper to bumper), one owner, 35k miles, for $22k with lifetime powertrain warranty through the dealer. Hondas are great cars. Kia would have been a decent choice as well but seem to be pretty much disposable (not worth fixing) once they are 10 years old.

I say almost every car is worth fixing. The value of the car is irrelevant, it's repair vs replacement cost. So you spend $2k on a tranny, lot less than $20K on a newish car.

I personally would not spend $3k on a tranny for a car worth $3k that has 188k miles and is not a great car to begin with. If I can afford it, I’d rather borrow the money and spend more for a newish car that should last 10 years and that would be worth fixing even late in its life.

This is wayyyy diffferent. It’s completly new from ground up. It’s a foot longer. Has a tiny 1.2l engine but it’s got plenty of power to get up and go. It’s tuned right for low end torque. The 6spd auto trans feels great. Handles decently. Night and day vs the old one. Has all the latest safety tech standard too. Minimal creature comforts but a nice simple and fast infotainment system with wireless CarPlay. Old one got a 4/10 car and driver rating. This one gets 8.5/10

Wow!! $250 document fee is almost insane these days. Most dealers want $699 and up. I’ve spoken to three dealers in Florida and all had a fee of $1299 which was the doc fees and vehicle preparation. Insane!!

Yea most domestic dealers around me in Ohio charge $250. German brands can be a little more $499 or so for doc fees. Above that is egregious.

BMW is more durable than most domestic or Korean economy cars. I have had my 99 M3 for 18 years, still maintain the 08 535xi that we gave to a friend a couple of years ago, have a 2002 my wife has owned for 25 years that I am restoring, etc. The only reason I sold the E90 M3 that I drove for 10 years was to make space for an F90 M5 since I wanted more space, comfort, power and AWD. I do all the work on those myself. They are worth maintaining and repairing to me.
