X1 competitor: MB GLA 250
Anyone have a MB GLA 250?
Am starting to think about a new DD Would love a 328d wagon but at 45k its more than I really want to spend on a DD The seats on the X1 suck arse to put it simply Part of me wants a GTI but to get a sunroof and ditch the butt ugly plaid seats you need to get close to 30k...PLUS the poor drivers position in VW that kills my right leg for unknown reasons...... I'd consider a Corolla but its near impossible to get non cloth seats, heated seats and a sunroof.......RAV4 is a bit easier but that CV tranny is bunk Mini Cooper S/JCW is still in the running....fun but I would really like a little more room Stumbled across the GLA 250......peppy car, really nice interior, pretty well priced for FWD in the mid 30's and it has a 7spd DCT...hmmmm Anyone have one? |

Maybe look on the MBWorld forums.
Personally I'm not a fan of the thing. I think it's ugly and looks like a frog, and I'm not a fan of the interior either. But hey if you like it more power to you. |

I love em. The all black titan is depressing and certainly hot as hell. Some companies need to get on board and at least offer ventilated leather in their lower ranges.
VW & BMW...

I have an MB GLK Bluetec. I love the thing, the diesel has gobs of torque, 369ft/lbs and it gets great mileage. I drove from Niagara to Pensacola and back last year for about $150 and I wasn't driving for gas mileage. It is small compared to other sport ute's but well made, comfortable and ticks all the boxes for me.

I haven't gone on the config but saw a reg CS online with houndstooth and had to do a double take. I like a good sturdy fabric seat covering, myself. Somewhat warm and cool. GTS' are becoming available and then they're gone. 3 targas are all I see now. Two coupes, one 2 and one 4, were snatched. Fashion gray GTS with lug wheels, 3 pedals, full espresso leather, ventilated seats, no sunroof, white gauges, gray belts and Bose would be my build. Maybe the cloth but that espresso is yum. I can't remember if pdcc and rr steering are standard, but those are musts too. Sorry op. Btw. I know zilch about Mercedes. Back to your thread. Good luck.

GLA is AWD but front biased, so a pass for me. I'd try to find the prev gen X1 with the 35 engine that thing is a blast. There's at least one new 2015 still on dealer's lots I looked a few weeks ago. That's a VERY nice DD. Dinan $750 and you're pissing in the tall weeds with the big dogs, although even stock is no slouch.

If you want decent room then a GLA is a bad choice. Super cramped inside with bad visibility.
Seems like you've got a decently quick hatch/wagon vibe going with the GTI, 328d, GLA 250, X1, Mini Cooper S but then what's the deal with a Corolla? Some other ideas... Fully-loaded Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring - 180 hp turbo motor, all the gizmos, plenty of room is $28,300. The current Civic is rather ugly but it has lots of features. The new Civic Si has a 205 hp version of this motor, LSD, upgraded brakes, suspension etc. but will only be available as a sedan or hatch and is stick shift only. Hyundai Elantra Sport has 201 hp, upgraded brakes, suspension, etc. The regular Elantra has a twist-beam rear suspension but the Sport gets a multilink setup. Fully loaded with 7-speed DCT it's $26k. If you want a hatch, the Elantra GT Sport (sold as the Hyundai i30 Turbo outside the US) will be out soon and it has the same chassis & driveline but in hatch form. |

Looks like there's basically no options available on the Corolla iM. Probably because it's formerly the Scion iM and Scion had no options. You'd think since it's sold in Europe as the Auris with a whole range of options that they would've started offering a broader range of options when changing it to the Corolla iM badge but I suppose they don't sell enough of them to justify it.
If you're not in a rush then you should hang on until the Elantra GT Sport comes out. Like I said, 201 hp, DCT, upgraded suspension & brakes, tons of options, good room with the hatch, and I'm sure it'll be less expensive than a comparable 5-door GTI. |

He's already considering a Toyota Corolla iM, with a 138 hp NA motor, a twist beam rear suspension, and literally zero options like leather or heated seats even available.
Civic hatch and Elantra GT Sport are both turbo motors with 180 hp and 201 hp respectively, multilink rear suspensions, and the equipment he wants. But ok, go ahead with that brand snobbery. |

Sat in the GLA yesterday at the NY auto show... suffers from the same thing every "luxury" manufacturers vehicles do when they downscale to a more "affordable" vehicle (audi q3, bmw x1 come to mind) it just looks and feels cheap cheap cheap. Outside of a base model civic / camry, it was probably the most unrefined interior I experienced all show. Trumped even by the likes of Mazda and *gasp* dodge. Now, it could drive amazingly, but legit felt like I was sitting in a honda fit.

Has anybody else been in a GLC? I had a hell of a time getting in and out of it and I'm small. The B pillar seems way too far forward.

The prev gen X1, at least in the 35 guise, was 100x the car the current one is, not even close. Hoping the bigger engine comes back in the X2 xDrive40 M or whatever the fuck the marketing department is going mad-lib together to name the thing.
