Supercharging
Hi, its that one dummy who wants to make power with an 07' 750li again!
I have found a supercharger kit online for the n62 4.8L engine, and i wanted to ask some questions. https://esstuning.com/ess-n62b48-g1-...harger-system/ It says on the website that it is meant to fit a 550i or a 650i but not a 750, my question is what exactly is the difference between these cars. To my knowledge, they all have the same size engine, producing around the same bhp. Could someone with a little more bmw engine knowledge explain to me why this wont fit, and what mods ill have to make to the engine to make this fit. I've been searching for weeks for different systems for this car that wont set me back 10k. Even with the kit ive found Im expecting to spend at least 8k or more making it work, which is over what i wanted to spend but it is what it is. |

I am assuming that they don’t have the software to flash the ECU on a 750 or an X5.

If the ECU are the same the hardware could probably be adapted or custom fabricated for any differences in engine bay layout. If the ECU are different, that is likely a much bigger problem.

I have also found this, which claims to fit on the alpina b7 models 03' to 08'. This car is essentially the same thing but the engine might have some differences given that it stock produces about 500 hp. |

I am well aware of the possible engine issues with more torque, and i was already planning to open up the exhaust, i was gonna straight pipe it and co catless downpipes since by the time the car is ready its gonna be historic and i can do stupid things to it. I also planned to do some engine work to hopefully make it a little tougher when I get all the basic maintenance it needs after not being driven for like 6+ years. I was thinking about doing a new transmission but thatll set me back thousands of dollars so i might just rebuild it and pray it keep running. in the long run its probably gonna set me back at least 15k, but thats over the course of like 3 years. At least thats my goal. I already have wider and larger wheels for it thatll hopefully help. And the rear end will have to suffer because im welding that bish.

This is the part that upsets me, because its such a cool damn car but they're stupidly expensive to work on and only came in an automatic trans.
And yes it is nonsensical but idfk what I should be doing with this car. I know what I want but I also know I cant afford it. |

OP- go buy a cheap older Miata and put an ebay turbo on it. You'll be able to do this for well under 10k and make an easy 200 whp in a light car. They are an absolute riot. Drive that when you want to rip around and still enjoy your 7-series (for what it's meant to do) as your DD. Best of both worlds.
Bonus is that you will actually be able to sell the Miata when you are ready to move on. |

Get the maintenance done, drive it and enjoy it for what it is while you look for something else. A clean, stock, maintained 740 will sell better and for more money than whatever frankenstein performance mods you put together.
Take the 10k you were going to dump on the S/C and put it towards a new car. You'll be chasing gremlins on this forever trying to get it to work and never enjoy it. |

I need to rephase cant afford. I do not trust myself to make monthly payments on an insurance plan for a car. Im lucky enough to have my current insurance policy paid for by my parents, but as soon as I get something else I have to figure it out. Also the 10k im talking about would be over the course of time, not one big payment.

Maybe ask your parents if you can sell the 750 and buy a smaller BMW that gets better mpg and is simpler and more reliable and less expensive to maintain. A 235i or 335i with 3.0L single turbo N55 is reasonably reliable and easily modded. An older model with 3.0L twin turbo N54 is also fun but typically needs more work and the twin turbos add complexity. A newer model with the very nice 3.0L B58 single turbo is the best of the non-M inline 6 turbos but newer and more expensive.

Think the consideration to spend $10k to supercharge an almost 20 year old BMW 750 with a kit not designed for this engine, on a tight budget where parents are paying for the car insurance is big mistake. Unlikely to go well and after the $10k investment the car will likely be worth the same or less than before you put the $10k into it, add in the risk of it never running correctly and the resulting potential disaster.
I would save up the $10k, add it to what this car is worth (sell it) and drive something else.
