That can be a very effective techique, to take the same subject over and over, in different seasons, different light, etc.

missed my chance at Aurora Borealis tonight

Was driving home from visiting my dad and I decided not to bring my camera.....

and of course as I'm driving along the 401 tonight I see off the the north faint features of the Aurora....

by the time I got to my place, there was a light cloud cover that completely hid the effect, so I didn't get a chance to go back out with a tripod to shoot it.

It doesn't get many colours in it where I am. But it still happens.

How do you like wearing a Nato strap? I haven't really figured out if I like them or not yet...

It seems like a lot of fabric to deal with. But at the same time, it's a popular option at the moment.

I've been wearing the Nato strap for a few years now and I really like them. Very comfortable and they don't pull my arm hair like a bracelet!

Here's another shot through the Zeiss 50/1.4 ZE this time @ f/1.4:

Wow, is it difficult to manually focus with such narrow depth of field.

neat shot, and not a bad job focusing

The hair pulling is the best part about watches......... Actually, I've been lucky in the past, I've only had one really bad watch for that. And after it's removed most of the hair from your wrist, it doesn't do it anymore That watch is now too small for me as it was the one I wore as a teenager, so it's not really a problem anymore.

I'm undecided if I want to take the plunge on a Nato, but I have the perfect watch for it if I ever do. Time will tell.

For sure, I should be headed towards my moms house sunday night overlooking Lake Huron, so if it's a clear night, should be a good opportunity for the lights. Might be lucky enough to see some reds. Time will tell.

And lesson learned. Should only have to learn it a few more times before I stop not making that mistake anymore.

Red-tail takes off against a dark blue Colorado sky:

Red-tail hawk launches against blue sky by dcstep, on Flickr

These lighting conditions are hard to beat. I had snow on the ground, reflecting up under the wings and into the eye, sun at my back and an incredible morning blue sky, typical here in Colorado.

Canon 7D, EF 500mm f/4L IS, ISO 800, f/9, +1EV, resulting in 1/1250-sec.

wow....

close overhead?

amazing what the snow on the ground can do with the lighting!!!

I'm thinking I might be road tripping to Colorado soon. I need to get out of Ontario. My dad is headed back to CO soon too, so I'll have a place to stay and explore from there.
