FP1 didn't reveal that much.
Obviously Ferrari will be stronger tomorrow in qualifying. Mercedes too. I think the big question is: how good is Aston Martin? Is today and last weeks' testing representative for how strong they really are? That would be quite the achievement. Obviously RB and Max are the #1 favorite, but anything can happen during the race... But it's looking very good. And we know RB strategy is usually very good.

^ Agree, not really worth saying much about this session, FP2 will reveal a more realistic pace possibly leading up to tomorrow with many just cruising along dialling the cars onto the track. Stroll had an ignition problem so couldn't take part in some of the session.
FP2 is at 15.00 GMT |

You can watch each driver on their own now. Oh my is McLaren struggling or at least they are on the deck all the time. Some cars Merc / Red Bull you can hear start to bottom out a bit at the end of a straight. The McLaren starts almost coming out of the corner didn't look good either.
Ferrari looked a real handful, Sainz was a complete passenger on that spin, didn't look nice onboard either. Red Bull look very good as does the Aston, going to be interesting. |

Max has gone 2/000's ahead of Checo into second, so whatever handling anomaly was on the 1 car before is being or has been sorted.

This pace with Alonso better not be a mirage.
This would be amazing for the sport if this was legit! |

I think Ferrari are sandbagging and Sainz's spin was just careless, anyway FP3 is at 12.00 tomorrow with quali at 15.00 GMT.

ALO is so grounded. He is saying all the right things as far as the Aston hype. I am so happy for him if he truly has a competitive car.

Ferrari were trying a stiffer sprint as an experiment when he span, so they went back to the previously setup.
At the moment Merc, McLaren and to a lesser extent Ferrari are way off. Red Bull they have a little issue with Max they are likely to sort overnight and Aston are looking pretty darn good for pace. Going to be interesting to see how they all evolve. |
