Alignment issue

Hi guys, my first post on here.
I took my BMW m140i into the main dealer today for the alignment doing as the tyres where wearing on the outside edge (ps4 on the front) I was called after they had the car all day to them saying” they couldn’t carry out the alignment due to the camber being so far out and that my top mounts where clunking and rubbing etc, they also said I needed a new swivel bearing” which would cost me £1212 and then £100 for the alignment. The alignment isn’t bad at all I just wanted it done for peace of mind and bc of the very slight uneven wear on the front Michelin ps4’s however that’s all I can notice. Like the stalker I am I was checking the my bmw app all day and not once did it say they opened the bonnet the car was just unlocked with a window down. Are they trying to scam me for some more money or could this be true. Once I got home I checked the top mounts and tried moving them for play but there wasn’t any?. They also claimed they got all that information of the machine and that it wouldn’t let them carry on due to it? Anyone else had this issue or could help?

Take your car to a specialist place with Hunter equipment.

It could be true but a 2nd option from a BMW independent shop is warranted.

Although, there is no adjustment for camber, it could be the alignment parameter responsible for your outer tire wear pattern. A swivel bearing won’t address the camber issues. Camber that is way outside of the specs suggests something is likely bent. I’d order new strut top mounts to ensure all clicking noises are addressed. Also, BMW may offer knuckles with different amounts of fixed camber to address your camber issue.

No direct experience with BMWs and alignment but tire wear on the edges, most of the time -- in my experience the inner edges but one the outer edges -- was due to toe being out.

With my Porsche cars it was the rear tires that suffered from accelerated inner edge tire wear to the point new tires were gone in 8K miles. With a proper alignment tire life jumped to 20k miles and tire wear across the tread was even.

With my 2006 GTO the front tires manifested out edge tire wear due to a lousy alignment I had done at an indy tire shop.

Not sure how camber could be so far out.

I would agree with others a second opinion is needed.
