I do not go to CF specific gym but my MMA coach makes us do it for one hour prior to training. I am super miserable while doing it ( tire flipping makes me wanna hang myself ) but the results are phenomenal. Cardio improved vastly and quickly. I can't speak for weight loss cause i am doing it for fighting only but i am sure its effective for that too.
A friend of mine goes to CF specific gym 3 to 4 times a week. She is tore up, leanest female i have ever seen. |

I've been doing it for 2+ years now. Wouldn't go back to a regular gym. Once you get in the swing 5-6 days a week, 3 days on 1 day off. Really depends on your fitness level.
Most of the guys here at IND have been doing it for a few months now.

For those of you doing it........How do you find it for gaining size? It just seems like it would get you cut but if you watch the crossfit challenge on ESPN those guys are all jacked. I would like to try it but the gym here in town is just way too expensive.

The guys you see in the Games WOD a few times a day and eat alot more than normal people under the paleo/zone diet methods. It is expensive, but the value you get for your dollar is worth it compared to any other gym. At my box you are basically getting personal training in a group setting every time you walk in the door. So if you go ~20 times a month your getting personal training at less than $10/HR.

I've been doing CrossFit for about 4 years now and run the military affiliate CrossFit gym on my base (Repel CrossFit). It's my fitness regimine of choice and have seen amazing functional fitness gains out of it that directly translate to what is expected of me and my Soldiers. Plus, I get bored with the "typical" gym workouts, nor do I have the time to spend more than an hour in the gym (unless of course I'm teaching a class in my CF gym).

Crossfit
I've been going for about 2 years. I would never go back to a conventional gym. It is really hard at first, but the results are quick and amazing. When I started, I couldn't run down the block without losing my breath.

After a few weeks of going I've loved it and have seen an increase in stamina and in strength! I say give it a shot and once you do you'll be hooked! Quote:

To all of those wondering about gaining mass: Your diet is one of the most important parts of gaining mass/progress (Beside actually working out/WODing)! If you're looking to gain mass, throw in a weight gainer with Casein before bed and be sure to have 2-3 shakes along with about 3 HEALTHY meals daily and you'll be sure to gain mass! Remember, muscle weighs more than fat! Quote:
I am still enrolled at my old gym (for no reason) and find myself doing my own WOD at home if I miss out on a day... 2 weeks in and I already had most of the progress that going to my gym for 2 months had! Overall, I am a great supporter of CrossFit and I honestly think I will never go back to a regular gym!

Depends on the Box. Expect anywhere from $150-$225 a month. At my box we offer our clients monthly, 6 month, and 12 month memberships. Most will have a drop in fee of $15-$20, some also offer punch cards.
If you have a few in the area check them all out and see which one you like best. Talk to the trainers to see how knowledgeable they are, I've been to a few where the gym had absolutely no structure at all and the community wasn't all that great. Just my .02 |
