Anyone changed their own oil mid service?

I've taken out the service contract with my 330d and so really there should be nothing I need to do service wise.

However, I would really like to do an interim oil change, at least before the first service which looks like being around the 19,000 miles mark. I was thinking of doing something around the 6,000 miles mark.

Now, I'm sure I could ask the dealer to do one at a price but would they reset the service requirement in some way? Obviously I don't want to end up paying twice for an oil service unless I'm genuinely getting it twice.

Preferably, I would buy the correct oil and genuine filter and just do it myself. Anyone got experience of that, preferably on the 330d engine?

Many thanks in advance

It's simply not required. These engines are engineered so the service intervals can be so long along with the oils used.

My E90 is 4 years old and just had its second service at 35k miles. Runs perfectly and does all that it should.

6000 mile servicing was what had to be done on big turbo cars like Sierra Cosworths etc.

Getting dealer to do at 4k. Charging me trade. Call me old fashioned but I've changed oil on enough new engines to know they need flushing regardless of tolerances.

Ha ha, big garret T35 etc! They cooked oil which was why it needed changing so often.

It won't do the engine any harm to change the oil, but not really a requirement.

I think 2014 cars now require a change every 12k miles?

Well I've done nearly 4k and it says service due in 16k miles. 19k is about where my E90 320d had its first one. That had 9k on it when I got it and I never bothered with that. I'm just rather more attached to this one having had it from new...

Old School guys, Modern lubricants and tolerances the manufacturer said it isnt required and as its condition based etc it just isnt required BUT It is your engine and if it makes you sleep easier at night why not im old school as well and im sure I will be doing my wifes 430d when we get it annually as she only does 4 k pa.

Here is another thought my recent VW Golf R was every year or 12k so ? same oil .

For the sake off £120 why not

I always change it and filter. You have to see the specks that come out then it's a no brainer.

Thanks I'll check that out next time I'm in - seems a very good price. So is the F30 330d engine 7 litre capacity with filter change?
