The benefit (from red wine) supposedly comes from resveratrol in the grapes and that can be had through other foods (grapes, cherries etc) but the research is far from clear that resveratrol has any real benefit.
Some studies point to the alcohol and obviously that can be in other drinks beside red wine. https://ifh.rutgers.edu/highlight/mo...rench-paradox/

Nice! I have a Delectus French Wedding (?) that I’m aging. Got it as bday gift few years back when we went with a big group to Napa. It’s a great place!

Found a local source for Niner, so I stocked up a bit. 6 pack of cab and 2 bottles of their blend “Fogcatcher”, which is dynamite. Getting ready to open this for tonight’s dinner.

This evening's selection from Germany's Rhenish Palatinate (Rheinpfalz). A nice sipping Riesling with a 3 sugar content.

I would also suggest trying French and Italian wines. They are not allowed to add sulfites and other things that California allows. In California, a Cabernet (or any grape variety) only needs to be 75% Cabernet. The other 25% can be various grapes or even something called “mega purple” added to the wine.

Didn’t take pics but we enjoyed a bottle of 2015 Tignanello and a bottle of 2019 Alpha Omega Cabernet (Rutherford) over dinner with family in Boca Raton last night. They dinged me with extra corkage on the Tignanello because they have it on their wine list, which I’ll need to remember for our next visit.

I had never heard of Canard (as in Canardly wait for wine time) before - we don't see it in the local Canadian market.
This is the line up from my last wine lunch here. Next up - Loire (these are blind tasting lunches with only the theme known). |

In full discretion, I would like to revise my forward looking review of Niner Fogcatcher from a couple days ago in a post where I said it's dynamite. It was not. I was let down by my expectation. I remember it being better to my palate. It was OK, but didn't leave me wanting to pop the other bottle that I purchased anytime soon, and certainly not worth $100. The Niner cabernet sauvignon at $30 is a far better purchase, and wine imo.YMMV

Allow me to start a small tangent discussion...
What do you all use for decanting? I came across this high tech decanter, and we've been using it for over a year - it's absolutely fantastic as you can vary the decanting time it takes depending on the wine type. It uses electromagnetic energy to turn a small spinner in the bottom of the glass decanter, thereby pulling the wine down, and oxygenating it as it gently swirls it. We love it. Interesting, never seen this before. I'm old school and use a simple decanter and let it sit... You can see it the picture from post 873.

"A cheval donné on ne regarde pas la bride."
A blended German style semi-dry wine from Canadian and Euro grapes. Verdict: It has alcohol. |
