Cool thread, Chelsea. I've always wanted a De Tomaso Pantera. particularly one that has had the electrical and other upgrades needed to make the car livable.

Oh lord I could run this list out a mile. That list is legitimately fifty cars deep of weird stuff I want to have at some point, but I'll keep it 'realistic' and just pick one older car.
Someone go park an R32 Nissan GTR V Spec II in my garage. I am, at my automotive core, a nerdy Japanese car fan.

Aston Martin.
Have actually been shopping these lately. I can see myself pulling the trigger on one in the next 3-5 years. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used...ting=241542711 I don't care that it's 13 years old. I'd rather spend $40k on a 13 year old Aston Martin than 90% of the new cars on the road I see every day. |

I had four of them in total. All mine had the 2.0L Formula Ford Pinto engine and a Getrag 4-speed. All in it was a great car for a 16 year old. Taught me to appreciate DIY'ing, which I am still heavily into to this day. It had big drum brakes on the rear axle, which led one to easily master the art of bootleg turns. So the Ford Pinto is a life legacy car for me. The Toyota Corolla of the same era was responsible for more fire deaths than the Pinto. Ralph Nader is just a dickhead IMO. Keep in mind it was small 2,000 pound car existing in an age of 5,000 pound Cadillacs and people driving around smoked up on weed, ludes, and cheap beer.

3 cars I couldve once got but I can't now:
Lotus Elise (kids mean 2 seats is no longer an option) R32 GTR (now worth stupid money) Honda S2000 (now worth stupid money and 2 seats is no longer an option). Once the kids grow up, I intend on spending time in a series 1 Miata, an Elise and a Westfield (poor man's Caterham). ... And if I win the lottery, the first thing I'm doing is buying an Ariel atom or a KTM X-bow. |

The NSX is a classic; keep it. Every munch head has a Porsche.

I think the 2 cars that I wish I was old enough / had money to buy at the time new were-
1) 2006 Evo IX 2) 2004 E46 M3 Both were legends and both are nearly impossible to buy without 10 owners and 10 wrecks today. |

Driving a very wide, very low, very capable car on the street doesn't sound like much fun to me. You'd get pulled over any time you drove enthusiastically, everybody would act like idiots around you, and you'd never get the feeling you were testing either your limits or the car. Driving one on the track would be fun, but you'd have to be insanely rich to not live in fear of wreaking it or yourself. But once the initial novelty wore off I doubt it'd be any more fun than a whole bunch of insanely cheaper cars around a track (which you can push harder without fear of bankruptcy). I'd consider renting one, but not buying one. I really think _most_ people who get into a Fararri or Lambo do it for the same reason they buy a Rolex or a Patek Philippe Minute Repeater. It's either because they want to show off their wealth, or because they appreciate the rarity for the sake of rarity, the expense for the sake of expense, or the engineering and craftsmanship that goes into making one by hand. In the same way you don't buy a Rolex or Patek because you want to know the time, I don't think you buy a Fararri or Lambo for the driving & handling. I've never driven one so I could be wrong, but this is why there aren't any fancy multi-million dollar exotics on my list. |

What would be in my dream garage? How big is my garage? I'd like a 911 and corvette of some sort because they're classics, but probably newer versions of each. I'd like to own something from Britain and Italy, as both countries have a long established history of making legendary cars. From a British perspective, I would probably look into a previous gen Vantage manual, Elise/Exige, or a XK8-R or F-type S with manual. From Italy, I'm not sure. I might go vintage for this---perhaps an Alfa GTV. I would stay with my BMW and VW as they're keepers, particularly in this scenario.
Cars are fun, but I think I'd like to get into something more rugged as well. I'd try to find a gray market/imported G-wagon with a manual+diesel. I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE the Ford Raptor and would get a new one of those. And while I suppose a Jeep Trackhawk would be awesome, I already own the SRT and it's pretty fast in its own right, so I'd hold onto it. So I would need what, a 9 car garage? |
