^^^Nice. I figured this to be a long exposure shot due to the absence of people, but it isn't. It really was that deserted?

Thanks. I was using Photomatix HDR at the tone compressor vice details enhancer setting to avoid the weird HDR effects. Also, about 8:30 at night, after the market had closed.

^^^^Nice. Any crop at all on that? At 1/800, I assume handheld?

Actually, I pulled out the tripod for this. I took several shots over 15-minutes, waiting for it to totally clear the atmospheric haze near the horizon. (The first shots were all mud). I could have shot it hand held, but when I'm aiming at something that doesn't move a lot, I'll use the tripod.
ISO 800, -5/3EV, 1000mm with about a 50% crop. Added a ton of contrast in post, but that's about the only correction. Of course, it's way darker than in life. Dave

Great weekend for photos! Keep them coming.
I got to witness a fantastic aerial ballet yesterday afternoon. The pair of kites I have been following definitely have young-ins. I have not seen how many, but I can hear the cries from the very top of the eucalyptus tree their nest is in. As one goes out to hunt, the other stays near the nest. But yesterday, the male? went out and got a mouse, then as he flew back to the nest, did a mid air transfer of the mouse to the other kite, and went back toward the fields looking for more. Basically, the female flew upside down and took the mouse out of the male's talons. Very cool to see! 20130525-AQ4E8118 by lennycarl08, on Flickr |

Two excellent BIF shots, Ed and DC.
DC, just give in to the urge and super-glue that TC/500mm combo to your 5D MkIII.

I won't post any more of this series, but of you want to see all 7 shots in sequence go here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/....php?t=1303147
This wasn't a fluke either, I watched them do it again today, but sadly too far out of range to shoot. I did finally see where there nest is though! 20130525-AQ4E8119 by lennycarl08, on Flickr |
