There was a definite pecking order when it came to UK-produced sports cars sold in the USA in the 1950s-on. At the top end was Jaguar -- powerful and expensive. Considerably more attainable was the Austin-Healey 3000 with its six-cylinder engine. The Triumph TR-3 and later TR-4 and the MG-A and later MG-B were the volume leaders. The Austin-Healey Sprite and later -- in Mk II form -- the similar MG Midget were the bargain choices.
My personal opinion is that the Triumph TR-3 was a bit homely. Triumph fixed that very nicely when they released the TR-4 with styling by Michelotti in 1961. The TR-4 also featured roll-up windows, avoiding the hassle of side curtains as in its predecessor. The TR-4 was introduced in 1961 at a price of $2,849 in the USA. It featured a 2.1-liter four cylinder with 100 hp. Over 40,000 were built from 1961 to 1965, when it was succeeded by the TR-4A featuring independent rear suspension. Here's a 1962 TR-4. Classic!

Was a TR4A owner in the late '60's and again for the last 24 years. To say I'm a Triumph enthusiast is a bit of an understatement.

I was today years old when I found out this vehicle exists. 1990 Lamborghini LM 002. This one had the V12 and 5 speed manual transmission.

1931-33 Stutz Super Bearcat tourer pictured here was a larger version of the short-wheelbase sports cars that Stutz built. The engine was an overhead-cam eight with 32 valves.

Ferrari was the 800-pound gorilla of the high-end Italian sports car industry in the 1950s. That started to change with Lamborghini's introduction to the competition in 1963, but there were other smaller entrants as well.
Bizzarrini was founded in 1965 and built a series of 5.3-liter 2+2s. The 5300GT featured a 400 hp V-8. 115 were built before production ceased in 1972.
