Hey, that's me! Except I'm in the Boston area and it's more like $3000/mo for daycare. Per kid. Now that both kids are in school it's "only" $2000/mo to hire a babysitter for a few hours per day until we get home from work.

Nice! The dropper that came on my bike is close to my favorite aspect of the bike.

$3k/month for daycare per kid?!?!

those kids better be able to read, write and speak several languages fluently.

Around here $1k/month per kid gets you some pretty nice daycare. For 3k/month, i can get a hot nanny to come stay with me

I read a report once on average daycare costs across the country. Daycare in MA costs about 50% more than in NY which is the 2nd highest in the nation. Bright Horizons is around $2500-3000/mo in the suburbs, but that jumps to $4000/mo in Cambridge and Boston which are the 2 big job centers in this area. I have a coworker who was paying around $7500/mo in daycare for her 2 kids, and that's after the sibling discount!

Anyone's take from this thread should be that getting married / having kids are some of the worst financial decisions you can make.

Very, very intriguing.

I am not sure at what amount of income my wife and I would have to make to pay someone $7500 per month ($10k gross) to watch our two children.

My wife nor I are really stay at home type of personalities, but still...

Agree on the kids but if you get married to someone that makes more than they spend and you stay together it is actually a good financial decision. I took it that getting married and then divorced is a bad choice.

Chances of kids bringing in more than they spend/cost - not so good (is it zero or just really close to zero)?

Raise 'em right and kids will pay back with interest. It's not all about money people.

Oh and I lied on the poll.

EDIT: No I didn't.

EDIT: Yes I did.
