Most of these poser M's are in California, although I know someone with a X3 and he has a M on the driver side of the rear.

I've seen a dude with a 5 series sedan with vanity tags "M5 Lite"

Look at the hood. Wing mirrors. Exhaust pipes. Does it look like an M4?

Yes - he has a handicap slip in the car. That's for *physically* handicapped people, not mentally handicapped.

It was at the Bayview Village parking lot. I was walking by and had to do a double take when I saw the little M4 badge in the grill.

I hate fakes and misleading badges as well but car forums can be filled with conflicting and fickled reaction. Someone puts a GTS hood (or some other part) on an M3 or M4 and they're praised yet an owner of a "lesser" 3 or 4 series modifies their car with M3 or M4 parts and they're chastised.

But seriously it is likely a ?I paid a lot of money for this car and am firmly in the M club, this guys is just a poser.?

But the same can be said about the GTS guys looking down at the normal Ms

Pretty sure the line is where you label the car as being something it's not. So having "M3" when its clearly a 328i wins you being scoffed at. IMO leaving the original markings and/or just de-badge is fine, long as you don't "publicly" say its something else. Case in point the Alpine white 335i saw posted that clearly had all known M-performance parts and was de-badged. Long as owner doesn't put M3 on it, I think should get a pass.

Depends on whether it came that way or not. The Z3 and Z4 Ms only had an M badge. Same with the 1M.

Ones I saw were regular 3 and 5 series. Tempted to do reverse fake badging when I get my M3. Put a 320i or 328d on it or something.

Anyone that knows BMWs will know that your M3 is not a 320i or 328d. Different hood & grills, front & rear fenders, CF roof, etc.
