Of course there was no internet forum back then for people to complain about it In more news, BMW South Africa has already stopped making the 3 series after 35 years. Being replaced by the X3, apparently. |

I think the M2 is the best selling M car in some jurisdictions, so I would be surprised if we didn't see more generations after the F87. Although, I am a DCT fan, so not sure I would get one anyway. Don't roast me on the MT/DCT side...I know that's what you are thinking! Quote:

RWD, a shrunken G20. G42 will be a suitable platform for an M2, but there hasn't been any evidence yet that the next M2 is happening. I think even the regular 2 series models haven't been finalized yet. |

And YES I agree ... i enjoy seeing this unfold Quote:
Together this actually is somewhat encouraging that BMW could be considering keeping a G series M2 by making all ( or the majority of ) 2er coupe and convertibles in Mexico. The North American markets are the biggest markets as BMW primarily sells the 1er in Europe. It seems like it would be cheaper to import 2ers to the US from MEX than GER. The ability to borrow parts from the G20 is a good harbinger as well. |

My mind just melted. Is a four series wagon a "coupe?"

G42 and G43 are still the only body shapes confirmed for the next 2 anywhere in the world?
There was talk of a GC at some stage but nothing for a long time |

Great news! Plenty of time for ///M to develop a M2 CSL

If we are being sensible. Then there will be another M2. I just cannot see why they would not... The concept is far too lucrative to dismiss.
Also I expect European 2er and the M2 for the global market to be manufactured still in Germany.

What is the story, then, with the 6er and how it fits into this "continuity" theory?

My thoughts exactly. The 2er exists for and sells to the purists. I think BMW knows it would rub a lot of these buyers the wrong way if they weren't made in Deutschland, and therefore could sabotage their sales of the next-gen car. The 3er is probably leased by unsuspecting badge buyers most of the time anyway, so less risk in moving production to Mexico.

So you can confirm the convertible is indeed not going to make it to production? I'd read that elsewhere, but I think this is the first I've seen you weigh in.
I recall you also mentioning the B58 model goes away too. This will leave just the one model (in the US), albeit perhaps with 300hp+ by then (maybe even branded M235i or M240i, who knows) and the M2. |

A lot of people talk about the superior balance and lighter feel of the 228i/230i, as such I think that a B48 with 225kw in G42 badged as M235i could work quite well.
