Question for all of you that have energetic breeds. At what age did yours start to mellow out? Or at certain times of the day or season? My golden is 16 months now and he has several “zoomies” throughout the day especially if he thinks I’m about to walk him. He pulls a lot in the first half mile then starts to calm the rest of the way unless we cross another dog then he lunges at them wanting to go over and sniff butts. I’m just glad he’s not destructive and hoping he mellows out when he hits his 20s or 30s.

Our Tilly is a spaniel, breed for hunting, very energetic. Sounds similar to your golden, lots of free time running free, playing fetch in the backyard and many long walks. Given my flexible schedule teaching at our local university and my wife is basically retired, we have time to spend with her. Would not recommend for someone working a full time job who can't provide the time help her burn off that energy. She takes several power naps during the day and started to really mellow by 7 PM or so before bedtime in her crate around 9:30. I'm up before 6AM to for a long walk and feeding, starting the cycle again. She is now 14 months old and the chewing has stopped other than her toys.

Sorry for your loss.

It is amazing how Sophie and my DW's OCD psycho-Westie Blizzard both seem to prefer the leg rest perch on chairs. I actually call the leg rest on my recliner chair LZ-1, because there will always be a Westie landing on it within a few seconds whenever I deploy it. He normally won't give me the right time of day unless I have a pork chop hanging around my neck, but has no problem using me for safety (as the biggest "dog" in the house) and staying just out of arm's reach.

We have friends down the street that own two Westies. One of their dogs gets clingy to me whenever we visit, and will curl up on my lap for hours. That makes Blizzard jealous/angry, so he will come over and chase the other Westie away from me...and then proceed back to my DW once he expresses his claim to me to the other dog.

Anyway, here's a picture of his couch-back perch, where he has a good view of the entire living room:

I’m noticing the same trend with mine. He has a few short naps throughout the day, the running around really tones down around 8pm and then becomes a lump at 10pm.

Bode is almost 5 months old and weighed in at 40lbs today 😳

Vet said he's gonna be 90-110. We're feeding him 4-5x a day. He sleeps by his food bin lol.

He's a standard poodle, best puppy we've ever had!

We've had 4 standard poodles (3 black and now an apricot) and wouldn't have any other dog. Our current one just turned 5 months old on Saturday and was 46 lbs. They do grow so fast!!

We got a puppy at the end of Nov, so now Conan O'Brien has a little sister.

Meet Pepper Potts! The rescue that had her was using superhero names, but we didn't like Rogue, so.....

Her doggie DNA results say 75% American Staffordshire Terrier, 12.5% American Bulldog, 12.5% Rottweiler.

A beautiful doggie!
Do you have experience with that kind of blood line?

A "pitbull" you mean?

Yep, lots of family history. My sister currently has two and my brother lost his (mostly) American Bulldog about 2 years ago.

Thanks! Yeah, she's pretty friggin' cute.

Actually I mean a Pittie, AmBull, or Rottie!
Good for you, though, especially for rescuing.
