My sister's 435i coupe alpine white with red interior. Fell in love with the way it drove, so much so I decided to trade in my brand new camry for an M240i. Had to make sure it came with red guts as well

First BMW I ever drove was a 2006 330i sedan at a BMW event in Indianapolis while I was a junior in undergrad.

A red 1971 2002 that I bought in graduate school. Fun little car. Did a lot of auto crosses with it.

One of my dad's friend had a then-new E83 X3 which he just tossed me the keys to. I think I was 16 or 17 and I drove them around for fun as they chatted.
Then I drove an E46 and E90 from friends through school. Own an F32 now. |

A late '80s 316 or 318.
4-cylinder, manual, but otherwise I don't remember exactly, but I remember how it felt and the red instrument lighting. It was somewhere in Europe on one of several trips we did for EuroRent (now InterRent, I believe) while I was in college (I grew up in Denmark). They'd end up with one-way rentals being distributed all over Europe and needing to be shifted around, so they paid gas money and had college students do the driving. Went to Paris, Frankfurt, Vienna, Rome, Firenze on those trips and put a *lot* of Autobahn miles on rentals. Sadly, only that one time and for a short drive in a BMW. Otherwise var more pedestrian hardware: A VW bus from Aarhus to Rome (they fit 9 people – if somebody rides across the luggage in the way back*), an Opel Kadett (4-sp, but topped out around 203 kmh indicated), a Mazda 626 Combi, and several less memorable. *: Waking up to Kraftwerk's Autobahn on your Walkman's headphones, laying across the luggage and looking out the rear window of a VW bus hauling down the Autobahn is a ... singular experience. |

2001 325Ci in AW 5-speed. Bought it used but was only 3 years old and had 30K Kms on it. Drove it to the ground and sold it for parts!

My wife's parent's 335is convertible with DCT. The experience got me to try some M2s. I ended up really falling in love then and picked up my 2021 M2C a month ago. Now part of the BMW family.

My first driving experience was back in 1990?. I had just gotten out of high school and i didnt know what i wanted to do career wise so i was driving truck for a local textile mill. It was a slow day and my boss called me into the office and gave me the keys to his 1989 325i Cabriolet. He said, "Steve take this to the dealer to get serviced. They are expecting you. Here is $20, go across the street and get lunch, DO NOT DRINK. and check back with them in an hr or so, then drive it back when it's done". I didnt push the car or beat on it but ive never enjoyed driving something so much in my entire life. It was like a gokart. I've been hooked ever since and promised myself id have one of my own one day.

128i, don't know the year, about 10 years ago.
Was shopping for a car to replace my Eclipse. Knew it wouldn't be their new one. Drove a Z, Evo, Sti, etc. and thought all were OK but just weren't doing it for me. Coworker convinced me to drive a 135i. I couldn't find one, but drove the 128i (used, traded in to a local dealership). Fell in love right away. Would have been happy with it but had a few bucks to burn and went for the 135i. Got it form a forum member here. That was... 10 years ago. Still have it and bought an X3 since then as well. |

When I worked at an indy repair shop back in the early 90s we had a lot of BMWs come through. Far and away when the E30's started coming through they blew me away. So much in fact I would go back and buy a used one many years later as my first BMW.

1993 BMW 525i stick shift. I was 19, and got it for $3000 in 2002. Odometer didn't work, heated seats didn't work, back windows didn't work, slow, was repainted yellow and the paint was chipping in the door jams.... but it had the big 5 spoke chrome wheels and looked good, and man did i think i was hot sh*t in that car haha.

In 1997, I test drove a very basic 1995 318i convertible and a 1994 325i coupe back to back. Bought the 325i, the inline 6 made it an easy decision. With the exception of about 2 yrs from 1999 - 2001 when I had an Audi Cabrio I've owned at least one BMW ever since

Didn't know much about BMW around this time but drove a friend's E46 3 series convertible in high school. It was terribly taken care of and I wish I could go back in time to buy and restore it. The engine roar sounded beautiful and now I own a '21 330. Currently in the market for an E46 M3.

How it started:
In 2003 when I got my first proper job I got myself an E36 320i. Loved that car so much. It was a total lemon... cost me a fortune. How it's going: BMW UK have given me a M440i as a free loaner while I wait for my G11 745e M Sport which should hopefully be with me in a few weeks. |
