That I will agree with. You need to be able to accept the responsibility and consequences. Sara by asking these questions is showing the responsibility part.

Thank you

Certain people like to discourage instead of encourage around here. Thankfully, I am not easily discouraged in life.

Depends on their politics and upbringing. Firearms are demonized in many places. Its just a tool like a hammer. A tool for protection.

Of those two, Rem 700. I will note however that the recent 700s have had some problems. I bought a CDL in .243 back in 2014, fired it maybe 100 times, in that time I have had to replace the bolt release spring twice. Not expensive in fact Rem sent me the new springs for free but damn is it annoying to try to chamber a round and have your bolt fall out of the back of the gun.

I think they have more or less corrected those issues.

Seems its been going on for a while too. I remember doing a bit of research between the two before settling on the 700 myself.

I think both are good platforms and probably equally well represented in aftermarket support and upgrades (though I'd say the Remy probably has more), so you probably can't go wrong with whichever one you choose.

Ultimately, for me it came down to getting a good deal on the Remy and being able to get it with the 5R barrel from a guy who wanted to sell.

I have almost bought an M1A a couple of times. The SCAR17 fills the hole in the collection that the M1A would also fill, and I don't have a lot of opportunity to play with my rifles.

I'll end up with one eventually, especially since its not effected by the stupid rifle rules in CA, so dumb

I'll put it this way. In the state of Mississippi (and many others) you meet force with equal force under the law. For example if a guy pulls a gun/knife/other deadly weapon against you, you may use lethal force to defend yourself. However, if a person slugs you it gets grey. Say a 110 pound person is attacked by a 260 pound person and the smaller person draws. You could justify that under MS law. But if I, a 220 pound man, is punched by a 130 pound person and I draw my weapon on him, I'm going to jail.

Now, assuming you drew your weapon and went to court for it, the onus is on you to prove that you legitimately feared for YOUR life first, and your friend's life second. For a fistfight, good luck. The gun can be easily mistaken for a peacemaker but it is NOT. It is an absolute last resort.

Actually the responsibility for "proving" anything is on the accuser. Yes proof helps defense but it's not the defendants responsibility

Looks like they are going for $1400 to $1800 depending on condition. I listed mine forsake a year or so ago for $900 and no one scooped it up.

It's not a POS either. Maybe has 800 rounds through it. Maybe time to list it again....
