I owned 2 TR-7s, a coupe and a convertible. Super easy to work on. Plenty of room for my 6’3” husband. His first car was a Nissan Pulsar because of the wedge shape. Before we were married we were both gunning for the Laser/Daytona when it hit the market. Traded my mustang GT in because it was newer technology. It blew head gaskets, warped cylinder heads, even threw a rod. I almost bought a Ford Probe GT, but I can drive my son’s. He also loves the wedge shaped cars. Needless to say, if this car is made, it will find its way into our household.

Off topic for the rest of us, but when I saw wedge complaints, that commercial immediately came to mind (I actually remembered that when it was on TV when I was a little kid!) They marketed the hell out of the wedge shaped theme which was uber futuristic at the time! (mid-seventies).

There was a Triumph Dealership down the road from us growing up called Monmouth Motors that was next to a foreign car parts store my father went to all the time for his constantly broken Jags which were also owned by British Leyland at the time (he probably had about 4 or 5 different Jaguars when I was growing up, so he was there getting cooling and electrical parts very often, especially for the XKE convertible) and I used to see them in the window with so much want. There was also an 8cyl TR8 (a friend had a gold one with houndstooth seats) I ended up getting a '79 Triumph Spitfire 1500 in the early 90s but then sold it. It was more reliable than the TR7 and less expensive then the TR6.

I totally remember the Nissan Pulsar. Someone dated in college had a red one. Lol. The Dodge Daytona/Plymouth Laser was very popular. The only Dodge I ever really wanted was a Conquest (aka Mitsubishi Starion). That car was before it's time like the 3000. I ended up with my 1st BMW in 2006 and had them ever since (with a Porsche and an Audi mixed in). My wife has always been a Mercedes girl until recently. She now has a BMW.Cheers!

Ditto on the EV. Despite the number of offerings, I still can't seem to jump on the EV bandwagon. ... Waiting for California to force me on the bandwagon or maybe find a NK that doesn't give me range anxiety.

So is it safe to assume this is the so called mystery M to be revealed at pebble beach Aug 15th in Cali?

Seems tiny from a far… perhaps it’s the halo car with the proper weight to power plant ratio.

Will hold judgement till official announcement. Do hope the roof is detachable …

Actually, the sister to the Plymouth Laser was the Eagle Talon and the Mitsubishi Eclipse (early gen). They were all produced by Diamond-Star Motors, which was a joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi and built in Normal, IL.

The Dodge Daytona didn't have any direct sister cars in the US, but it was built on the ubiquitous K-car platform, which spawned off virtually every Chrysler Group product that started in the 80s.

I just realized the irony of all this. The plant in Normal IL that made the Laser, Talon, and Eclipse was sold to Rivian and now makes EVs!

Was just about to write this.

Also interesting that Teslas Fremont factory was a New United Motor Manufacturing Inc (NUMMI) JV between Toyota and GM that produced Corollas, Novas, Prisms, Tacomas, etc.

This is gonna be a tough one for BMW to pull off. It looks absolutely horrible from behind. Just like with the new M2 one cannot but wonder if they turned the design for the rear upside down someone has got some dirt on the man in charge so it slips through..

This just goes to show, doesn't matter what BMW do, whether it's something new and interesting, something classic being updated, something completely covered, new tech, something different, they can't do anything right because people on here will moan for no apparent reason. Not everybody has to like everything they do, but how can you not be at least a little bit happy or excited that something fresh is cooking? Goodness me.

Few posts above yours "this is horrible", few posts above "my eyes are bleeding", and so on.

It seems it's a contest who can say the worst about the prototype camouflaged car.

M1i is a good name but takes away from the legacy hence why I’m guessing the name would remain as M1 regardless of power plant type.

Second guess would be M1X 😂
