So I am relatively new to the sport compared to most of you, so I didnt see Lewis come up or his years at McLaren, but I have watched many old races after the fact.
Here is what I see (MY OPINION):
Lewis used to race on shear race craft and overtaking talent. He would outsmart people, outdrive people out of corners, push them into bad lines, every lap was an all out duel. As Lewis has matured, he has a different approach. Instead of each lap being a battle that must be won, he takes the race as a whole and controls it. As we saw in Portugal this year, he doesnt care if he gets passed in the first few laps. Its wasnt worth the risk in those conditions to go all out when he could manage the entire race and still come out on top. So many races over the past 2 or 3 years have gone like this. Lewis's "luck" is not luck at all but intense strategy from the start. When the race starts to get near the end, the plan falls into place and he takes a convincing victory that makes everyone think its just the car or luck. Lewis has gone from a brawler to a tactician and its brilliant.

THIS.IS.BRILLIANT.
Well said and communicated.

I did see HAM in his second yr in F1 win the 2008 Monaco GP. We sat in Casino Square and he was the only one (in my opinion) that did not lift....so incredibly close to the Armco and so incredibly fast through Casino Square.

Totally agree that he benefits from having an organized team which rarely makes mistakes. I'm not arguing against that, but to say that its "all" the team, you'd have to be a lunatic who was blinded by love for another driver in a cult like passion...

Read the articles and keep up with the folks who worked with Ham. A great deal of that team strategy comes from Ham’s feedback. Merc also learned to work with Ham and his style because they say the benefit in it.

Awesome post!! The unpacking of my assertion, "He started off as Senna and has now become Prost."

He did. He learned to never relax, celebrate or take anything for granted until it is completely over.

We see it every race.

And mind games like psychological sabotage .They were ready for a box fight !

That's why earlier this week TOTO said regarding MAX :
Don't want another Star Wars . But HAM and MAX at Mercedes IS "The War Of The Worlds" !

If I was TOTO , I signed MAX in ASAP ! And the whole world would watch F1 again !
But as we know , MAX is not like BOT

My friend ,HAM shouldn't be worried , He's the GOAT anyway !

I dunno why you think Max is even 10% as good as Ham is. He’s with a top team and content with 3rd place. Even if he starts winning after Ham retires, it’ll be solely because Ham retired. Not because Max is good.

Mate that's really funny ,honestly this means that BOT is the second GOAT in a Merc ?

Tell me why BOT is sometimes faster than HAM ?

Listen mate , HAM and BOT are just running with best and fastest car of the F1 decade .

Amen..

The fastest driver in the fastest car tends to win. Hence Max losing. Ham will relinquish the throne one day and give Max a chance to win.

Losers tend to talk tough and issue challenges. Winners don’t need to prove themselves. They already won.
