It still happens ... everyday and worldwide. Worth 3bhp they say ( if placed correctly ). In this case, it is worth 6bhp for two M items.

I know it'll never happen, but the V8 should be on the M850i and the M8 would be best having the V12 in the middle of it and dropping the rear seats and whatever excess weight BMW are busy adding to it. |

I still don’t understand why they don’t just use the 1.5L B38. It should be able to make 170hp without any trouble at all. I mean it’s only down a tenth of a liter compared to the smaller displacement B48.

I suppose, but I strongly doubt the B38 will be kept out of the *20i forever. At some point, it no longer makes sense to use a turbocharged four cylinder gasoline engine in a vehicle with less than 200hp when you have a three cylinder engine that could do it instead. Just like today you don't see turbocharged six cylinder gasoline engines in vehicles with less than 300hp anymore.

I've wondered the same thing! The B38 is clearly capable of 200hp+ in the i8, albeit with some forged components. Also, since they are using a 1.6L 4-pot engine, why did they limit it at 170hp? Why not 184hp using the same high-boost low-compression ratio setup in the 2.0L 30i models, especially since the 1.6L engine's compression ratio is already low at 9.0:1 as indicated on bmw.com.tr. The 2.0L 30i engine makes 124hp/liter so it should be able to make 184hp comfortably with 1.6L.

Any further info about 6MT availability on the G20 M340i? Or do I hang on to the one below forever?
Today I was informed that it has a bad 2nd-gear synchro, and I'm getting a new trans and clutch. But it's only got 22,000mi and the warranty expires next May, so I'm not exactly sanguine about its long-term reliability. Still love the car, though.

http://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1442627 It doesn’t seem to leave much hope for the manual to make an appearance. If that outlook changes, expect it to hit the front page quickly. |

Well, I respect that. I ask because there's no SOP for the G06. So it's the same as the G05 or they have discontinued it?

The EOP schedule in the first post shows the F16 X6 ending production 7/19. The G06 X6 should therefore start 8/19 assuming there is no hiatus planned and assuming they haven't decided to go another direction (such as X8, just for example). Indeed, we ought to see mules soon for a release supposedly coming in less than two years.

Not strictly BMW-brand news, but ynguldyn has mentioned a number of times in his posts (including the OP in the past) that MINI is adding DCT transmissions. This has also been confirmed in media reports throughout this past year. I saw this article today:
https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...h-transmission Asserting that March 2018 is the date for international availability (no US date mentioned). But that aside, the article contains a claim that surprises me: the DCT and Auto will be offered side-by-side. I thought the point of the move to DCT was greater efficiency. If what the article says is true, I wonder if they are concerned that some buyers will be turned off by the sometimes-jerky low speed characteristics of the DCT. In any case, I can't help but wonder if this is just a transition plan or a longer term situation. |
