I had the Dodge version. 1981 2-door. Worst car I ever owned. The dashboard literally fell off the frame work. I had to put increasingly larger PK screws into the plastic to hold it together. On rough roads, the suspension sounded like it had 500,000 miles on it without any maintenance. On one trip out of town a pin came out of the transmission case and I could no longer select 3rd or 4th gears.

Great idea Iacocca, but quality follow-through sucked.

A few photos I took on some of my trips to Atco Raceway over the years of other people's cars as well as a pic of the aftermath of me doing donuts in a Fiat 124. :b ellyroll

We had two of them in the mid-eighties, absolute garbage. They didn't last 50,000 km (30,000 miles). Most police cars would last between 100,000-150,000 km.

I remember sitting on my apartment balcony in Scarberia at the corner of Markham Rd. and Ellesmere one evening back in '82 watching a guy on a motorcycle running circles around two cop cars. They kept trying to pen him in but he would slip through every time they came close. The bike ran all over the neighbourhood for about 15 or 20 minutes before he got bored??. I say bored because that's when he zipped out onto Markham Rd and then hit the 401 east and pinned the throttle through the gears. The funny part was the cops didn't see him leave and circled the neighbourhood for another 5 minutes or so.
I don't know what make the cop cars were but they didn't have any rotating lights, just two round, flat, flashing red lights mounted on a single roof rack type bar spaced about 3 to 4 feet apart. They didn't seem to have very much power. Could they have been K-cars?

Upon doing a quick Google search this is the style of light bar I remember but I'm not getting anything from this car. Maybe I'm getting old.

I think that's one of the Malibus, they were all gone when I got on the job and replaced with the Dodge Diplomats. 318 rubbish. I remember going to a hotshot lights and sirens on Jane St. and getting passed because the peace of shit wouldn't go above 80KMH. The Crown Vics were a different story though.

There was also Pintos and VW Bugs but they only got used for summons service.

Well they definitely weren't Pintos or Bugs. They were way too boxy for either of those. Diplomats could be what I watched. Or it may have been Malibus. It was a long time ago and I may have been sipping on a beer while watching the show.

My family car around that time was a Supra - manual. Wife and 2 kids.

Looked like this (pic from the web).

This is what I had except it was lifted and on 35" tires... and it was black. Not much of a family car but it was great fun on the trails. I should have kept that truck.

1962 Chevrolet Impala 409 SS convertible (hardtop with vinyl roof?)

If you ordered the big-block 409 V-8 engine, it only came with manual transmission.

The new age of hot rodding. There is a builder on the Factory Five Forum that did a Tesla powered 33 Hot Rod. All the suspension and battery packs are completely custom fabricated.
