I think Axle took a spill right before the holiday last week. Came home from work, and he wasn't his usual energetic self. He usually has what we call the "zoomies".
But over the weekend I noticed him lying around more, and he would come up to the couch...but not jump up. It freaked me out (again first time dog owner), so I immediately had my wife call our vets emergency number. He scheduled him in for this past Wednesday. My weekend was ruined because I was worried about the little guy. But by Tuesday...he was back to his old self. Still went to the vet and he said he probably had a fall on accident...and was spooked. Otherwise he was fine. Gave him an anti-inflammatory. Maybe I went overboard...but I rather have peace of mind and don't want him hurting. We also bought him some stairs for the bed....but he won't use them yet. Right now he is chilling out beside me watching car shows!

PSA for people putting in stairs for aging or smaller pets so they don't get hurt trying to jump up too high. Our cats had no clue what the stairs were for. Especially the 3 legged guy who was the primary reason we bought them. Until we took them and carried them up the stairs placing their feet on each step. Did it a few times and suddenly it figured it out. Now we can't get rid of him at night.
So a little training might be required for the stairs to work. Not sure how I'd do that if I had a 70 point pet. |

You may need to train him how to use those stairs. We had to train 3 of our’s to use them for couch. Holding off on puppy for a while. She’s got too much energy to be on and off the couch and when they are small I don’t think they have depth perception developed yet.

Thanks! Everyone always comments on how he looks like a mini Lassie. I've been trying to convince the wife to get a Tri-Color Sheltie as a brother/sister for Finn but she won't budge!

Meet Reno Spade.
He's a year and a half old, pure bred Basenji. Already full grown at 20-25lbs. My best friend in the whole world, love him so much. We've been through a lot together already including more than a couple close calls. A challenging breed but so worth the effort. Interested to hear if anyone else here has experience with Basenji. For those not aware, they are also known as the "barkless dog" as they do not bark. A very quiet dog but can make some noises when aroused in certain ways. One of the oldest breeds on the planet if Im not mistaken. A sight hound from Central Africa. Last edited by sspade; 06-02-2020 at 05:28 PM.. |

He is mute 90% of the time. Will only make noise if startled or trying to communicate. For example if someone knocks on the door as he's sleeping... he will reactively make a pretend/half ass bark noise as he's startled awake but then goes back to mute with a second literally. Also... when hes trying to communicate or play, he will make a yawning yodel whine type thing. To put it in perspective: say he wants food that you have.... he will absolutely not make a peep although will likely bug you until you give him a taste. Same thing with other dogs on a patio for example... of course he wants to go play with them but he will not make a noise or be a nuisance in that regard. They do have a really loud "baroo" type thing they do when in distress. For example if I leave him alone for a few hours, sometimes I return to him doing a loud howling baroo type noise into the air. Very unique breed for sure. I would recommend to anyone with patience. They are incredibly willful and sometimes bite when they play. I just play rough with him back (within reason) and he loves it. If you were the type to try and beat the biting out of him... it would not work. You would end up abusing him because of his strong will. Of course, I swat him every now and again but most times he bites he is actually trying to tell me something like he needs to go for a pee (since he cant bark to communicate). |

My Son got his own place recently.
Sent me these pics of his new Maine Coon kitten. He’s calling her Clover. Has to be his girlfriend’s doing. He’s been a dog guy since he can remember things.
