Sure he may have freedom in car setup but not development. That's why it's built around max.

& Weber back in the VET years @ RB
It was pathetic the year at Silverstone that they took the new fr wing off of Webers car & gave it to VET for the race.

RB has been this way for a VERY long time.

Ferrari's treatment of Barrichello as Shcumi's teammate was the worst favoritism I have seen in the sport.

Reports are Ferrari isn't even pushing their engines anywhere close to max they already have an advantage. Assuming their PU is reliable and durable, it looks like their car this is the one to beat. Ferrari will only up the power if their able to tune and adjust their chassis to match whichever engine mode they decide for the weekend.

This is what I was suggesting in the Bahrain thread. Despite what the data shows and despite the thoughts of the Mercedes PU not being good this year, I don't think we know the true potential because the chassis isn't set up and there is no need to push the engine if you're still going to be the 5th and 6th fastest on the grid.

Saudi GP will still won't be able to tell who's really behind but for Ferrari, it can be where they show everyone that they are the ones to beat this year - not Red Bull and not Mercedes.

But that's because Ferrari knows they have a good chassis so they aren't in a need to push their pu to the limit for extra time. Whereas mercedes knows they are in trouble chassis side so it would make sense for them to have to run their pu 10/10 to try and make up for the time.

I think mercedes's engine performance "issue" is due to the high drag wing they have to run to compensate for their lack of down force, and their porpoising and traction issues preventing them from being able to really accelerate and put the power down. So drag drops top speed (low cornering speeds don't help either), porpoising and traction issues prevent that good acceleration.

That's a logical response to make up time but pushing the engine 10/10 or 1/10 makes no difference with their car right now, they're still the 5th & 6th fastest car on the grid - that's how much they're behind Red Bull and a Ferrari. So why would you risk reliability now when it makes no difference? Mercedes will and should finish 5th & 6th right now.

You're coming from the angle that Mercedes is competitive and can still make podiums. I don't see that. Assuming no retirements and it's a clean race, Mercedes with their current car even if they went balls out with the engine is not beating RB or Ferrari. I wouldn't risk going through engines until you figure out the chassis - and that's a similar approach with Ferrari. You don't push your PU just because you can. It has to match the chassis.

That's because Alfa and Haas are extremely close behind, if they didn't push the engine to its full potential they will risk being the 3rd fastest car. They can't assume they're the 3rd fastest - because that isn't guaranteed until qualifying so they can't just gamble and reduce engine power and hope that this level of power will be enough to net them the 3rd fastest team. They simply did not have enough data on the other teams to make that call to reduce engine power, and when you're doing damage control you simply cannot risk anything.

Good new at last! The problem has been rectified in that the Italian made Magnetti Marrelli pump did not actually fail but caused a strange vacuum in the fuel supply which cut off the fuel.
Understandably the techs are not disclosing the exact fix which took some thinking out, so it should all be fine for tomorrows FP runs.
The AT PU of Gasly however is a worry, I guess he'll be taking a small grid drop for that suspected mguk failure.
