Free money alert! Or too early?

What do people think about investing into BP or Exxon?

Drillers are getting their faces ripped off today. Diamondback Energy (ticker: FANG) is down nearly 50%.

I revise my previous post. If I had $50k to spend right now, I'd quit my job, or get fired on purpose & collect UE, & move south. I'd be ok while I job hunt for a bit.

What's left after I have a new job & such would go in the bank.

I'm not even going to look at my Schwab account today

No idea on if it's too early because who the hell can tell, but for what it's worth I work on a BP project for a contractor company and no one on the program is phased in the slightest. Work is still busy as ever.

I know it's early days, but still. No panic just yet

Halting trading sounds super shady to me... almost like a bailout.

Was halted in the am for about 15 minutes. I don't think it's shady, but it probably would cause more concern and fear I'd assume so maybe that's why they avoid it.

Because that already happened today. We got the level 1 circuit breaker (7%) right out of the gate this morning which triggered a 15 minute pause in activity.

The level 2 circuit breaker occurs at 13%, and level 3 at 20%. We're a long ways off from level 2.

Its a mechanism partially meant to block algo trading from absolutely running a train on the market.

Starting to like what I see but I think there's going to be quite a bit more of a discount coming. Trying to be patient.

Eh. The market has dropped to levels not seen since last summer.....gasp!

The coming potential for quarantines in the US worries me more than market vol.

Forgive me for asking such a stupid question, but when the market tanks, isn't that the time to invest, especially in those companies that may be able to bring us out of the issue that is causing the market to collapse?

As long as it doesn't keep tanking after you invest. The tricky part is timing when things will level out and starting picking up again. That's the best time, just incredibly difficult to predict.

I've bought in the past when i thought it couldn't go much lower....but it did drop slightly more.

However, I still made money on the rebound as I wasn't looking to make a quick buck, just trying to acquire more pieces a lot cheaper than they had cost me before.

You just have to decide for yourself what you think the market is truly valued at after all this passes, and how long you plan to be in for .

Definitely that part, which is hard to get comfortable with (at least for me). It's usually ok if you get in slightly before things stop dropping, as long as you plan on giving it time and sticking with the investments long term.

I struggle with that part and tend to over-think the timing to death, and then I get in once it's already started going up and don't get as much growth as I should've if I would've been ok with losing a little bit by getting in earlier

Let's see what futures show tonight... the growth since 2016 has been absurd... so imho 20k is a reasonable level off... prob not good for most.

My picks after we find bottom and VIX stabalizes.

1. Disney
2. At&t
3. Dollar General
4. J&J
5. Microsoft
6. Chevron
7. AB inbev -people drink more in recessions
8. FB
9. British Tobaco - people smoke more in recessions
10. Coca Cola

Prime diversity right there not much ovelap in sectors.

I would put 5k in each to an even 100 percent distribution.
