Its so damn weird and well.....doesnt make sense. Not that appealing, hopefully they take it up a notch with the M2 because all hope is lost with BMW in the exterior styling department, My 2 cents.

I like it. The only negative is the front vents, they look very Lexus to me. Not bad, but they don't have a BMW vibe. Seems to simple and stamped, versus molded.

So BMW is making an exception and says take-rate be damned, but that's only for 6-cylinder M high performance cars. But who knows; the Z4 20i can currently still be had with a manual in Europe, maybe the 220i will have a manual option at some point as well. |

To be fair it's probably BMW who started with the wavy headlights in the first place (E46, E65...), and all manufacturers have been so much all over the place that this resemblance here doesn't mean BMW have actually copied Audi. It's just the first thing that spontaneously pops to mind.

Disgusting...
That is all! Simple... Guess my 20' M240iX is with me for the duration! Lol They missed the memo, of it isn't broke, don't fix it! Was no need to "Redesign"... When maybe a few little tweaks would do! Here they went overboard and destroyed a pretty good looking car, made it look like an Asian import! Good job! |

All manufacturers are not immune to having other manufacturers details show up in their designs as designers move from one manufacturer to another sometimes things get baked in. But it's also good to keep your stuff fresh and not resemble a model that came out years ago. I remember when the head of design of Alpha Romeo showed up at Subaru and we all know what happened their |

Practically half of the cars on the road now have some sort of Hofmeister kink. Does that mean BMWs are indistinguishable from all of those cars?
BMW can't help that elements of their designs have been copied and imitated by practically every other manufacturer. As always, it's the subtle details of the execution that act as the signature to an auto make's design language. Ask yourself why you can immediately tell that the BMW Hofmeister kink is from BMW and the Hyundai Genesis version isn't. Same with corona lights, strong front-to-back character line, etc. All stolen, but BMW's versions still manage to be distinct. |

I can't wait for the values of the old
BMW to sky rocket since bmw won't get their head out of their ass with design and implementation. Fake grills no air vents and a rear that looks like Disney drew it, no thanks |

I had the same train of thought and hypothesis as you. It seems as though the overall consensus of Porsche's design, specifically their two door coupes, is that it hasn't changed too dramatically over the decades, so I figured I would see what the data says.
Here are Porsche US sales of their 911/718/Boxter/Cayman over the last 5 years: 2020: 12,287 2019: 13,145 2018: 14,923 2017: 14,057 2016: 15,161 2020 was a rough year for a lot of auto manufacturer's, but the overall trend is going in the wrong direction for unit sales. Of course we know the industry trend that consumers are moving from cars to SUVs so there's a natural shift in demand. We're seeing that same shift very clearly in BMW too. BMW now sells more light trucks than passenger cars, and that's with them classifying the X1 and X2 as passenger cars, which could be argued. I wasn't easily able to find Porsche's global sales, so that data could show the opposite results as compared to the US and I could be 100% wrong. However, I think our claim and hypothesis that minimal design changes for Porsche is working is in question. Would Porsche be better off by drastically changing the designs of their two seat coupes? Or would that have resulted in poorer year over year results with the trend of consumers migrating to SUVs? What if they kept the 911 design in check, but pushed the envelope on the design of the 718? Would that have resulted in better sales? Those are questions we will never definitively know.

I am pretty sure the G87 will come after this, I like this design and the new G87 M2 will see me out in my retirement years. At my age the only certainty is that it won't be the purple colour😂 |
