First "official" ride this morning in the trails while the heat was still bearable. A bit of tweaking was necessary but very pleased overall with the performance.
I reinstalled my front and rear strobes and temporarily MacGyver-ed a retaining hack for my GPS and camera case. |

An old gutted farm house that was moved on a new foundation and waiting to be re-born. I'll visit this site and document the progress over the next year(s).

Pushed for a new PR today at my favorite loop… It’s just shy of 6 miles, has some pretty aggressive climbs and descents. I think I pushed too hard though, as I had to take more breaks than usual which meant a measly 2nd on total time (38:15 is my PR, did a 39:47 today).
Set 2 new PR’s on the loop though, 10.7 mph average (up from 9.7) and 35.2 mph top speed (up from 27.6). Was absolutely flying, just need better cardio so I don’t have to stop. |

After work ride. Bit more than I could chew when going too fast on a logging trail and took a tumble when my front wheel skidded on a wet rock. Not much damage but my upper left rib cage needed to be strapped. Please don't me me laugh... It only hurts when I breath...

Set another PR (despite being muddy and crashing into a tree). Main loop (4.04 miles) done in 25:05, up from 27:49. Took no breaks for water, wasn’t easy though.
I REALLY need a beater vehicle. Getting tired of putting a dirty bicycle in the back of my M3… |

Since today is the Acadian Birthday Celebration, practically everything is closed to allow families to celebrate.
I went for a good ride this morning but didn't do anything stupid as my ribs are still sore. A few pics: |

My last TREK had Schrader valves and my new one uses Presta. Is it better to use an adapter or purchase a cycle pump made for Presta? What are you guys using ?

The mini pump I carry on my bike does both, just have to unscrew the tip and flip a little rubber piece around. My floor pump also does both, just has 2 separate holes. I bought both of those items with my first MTB, was in a "bundle" for like $60. I DID have to buy a presta PSI gauge, $15 on Amazon.

Most all floor pumps will do both. For on bike use, I gave up a mini pump years ago and switched to CO2, way more compact and simpler to use. You can get one for presta valves on amazon for peanuts.

As others have said, your existing pump may well be adaptable between presta and Schrader; unscrew the collar around where you insert the valve into the pump. Pull out the rubber part, and pull out the plastic part behind that. Flip the plastic part and put it back in, flip the rubber part and put it back in. Reinstall the collar. Pump up presta tyres. |

Trails are really sandy with the dry summer this year... I regret going with a tighter tread tire. I keep spinning on the hills and don't have a ton of confidence on the turns anymore. My bike is a steel hardtail so it's heavy as heck, don't want to lose all the momentum but it's hard to keep.
The 44 tooth front gear feels great with the low roll resistance tires on the multi use trails tho. I think I accidentally made a commuter bike. Last edited by freakystyly; 08-27-2022 at 07:25 PM.. |
