BMW Discontinuing BMW Assist Renewals

I got the email from BMW today, so it took about a week.

But the dealer says there are no parts available, call back in a few months...

any idea what to do if i have a BMW that is no longer under bmw assist subscription and want the retrofit? not getting an email so unsure how to proceed

From what I've read BMW won't do it.

Well, it better be sooner than a few months. Because they're pulling the plug in January. That's the whole point of offering the retrofit to people who are still receiving the services they paid for. I can imagine an uproar if the parts are not in on time to prevent any outage of service. If this happens, BMW is going to have to offer up more than what they've provided as options for compensation.

Correct, according to the bulletins posted by BMW to their dealerships, they will only retrofit if you are still in your 4yr/10yr (depending on model year) or 6yr (BMW CPO) subscription that comes with the BMW.

If you are paying year-to-year (which BMW stopped allowing renewals 1/1/2016 or your subscription will expire 1/1/2017) or have a lapsed subscription, they will not perform a retrofit at this time.

That's odd. They should be able to order it for you. I dropped off my vehicle at the dealer yesterday morning and was also told they didn't have parts so they ordered it. Just called dealer - parts came in today and vehicle being worked on now.

Thanks, I will call them back and ask them to order it. And I am still waiting on the airbag too.

No problem. Did you call BMW NA about the airbag yet? I called them on a Monday and got a call 2 days later from my dealer that the airbag arrived.

I took my 2013 to the dealership today to have the combox disabled, I opted for the $200 GC. Took about 30 mins to have it done including the car wash.. he said they will submit for the gift card on Monday. BMW of Turnersville NJ

BMW sent me a confirmation email within 24 hours, and it said to contact your SA at the dealership. I finally was able to get ahold of my SA, and he told me that the retrofit is free so long as you're still within the warranty period. This makes sense to me - i'm sure they're offering the retrofit to avoid legal action since in theory a feature of the car won't work anymore during the warranty period.

I told him to order the part and set an appointment for retrofit (I will keep everyone posted once it is completed).

I thought the retrofit was $199? If it is free then I am in. My subscription/warranty is not up until August 2017.

It's free for the hardware/ install. Subscription fee is $199 beginning as of Jan 1, but not sure if they'll prorate it if you still have remaining time left from the original purchase.

I called the parts department, they told me they have these parts in stock, I am not sure what is going on here?

Retrofit is free. My subscription isn't up til Sept 2017 and got it done last week. The charge would have been $669 or something from what I saw on the papers, but my copy says N/C.

Did you have any coding done on your car? If so, did they reprogram/update your car and lost the codings done?

It took them a couple of hours to do the retrofit. I didn't have any custom coding on mine, though.

Gotcha. Thank you.

My concern is that I did the Xenon retrofit and if they do update/reprogram the car based on VIN pulled from BMWAG, it will throw all sorts of errors relating to the headlights and curious how they will handle that.
