I learned about hemolysis this weekend. Went for a standard pre-physical blood test on Friday and had to go back today because my draw wasn't usable for some tests due to hemolysis. They don't know why it happened, but I noticed the phlebotomist-in-training shook my sample. Usually they just invert it gently. That might have been the cause, although the phlebotomist I had today said they're never really sure why blood draws occasionally suffer hemolysis.

Yes, excessive shaking can cause hemolysis. You have to be very gentle when mixing with the anti-coagulant. There are many other factors. Even needle size can screw-up a sample. That's why we have a full-time lab technician at the clinic. Nothing is shipped to a third party.

Not my purchase, but my best friend's (for 30+ years) new toy.
He called me up today and said that he was going to swing by and take me to dinner. He..... sort of "forgot" to mention that he'd just picked up a new Cybertruck. Foundation model for about $105k out the door. (Yikes!). You're only choices at the moment are the Foundation of the CyberBeast. The lower $80k model is in the "we have it listed but you can't buy one" category. Honestly, if you ignore the looks (and I know, that's REALLY hard)... it's a pretty amazing piece of machinery. My only gripes about it so far are a) there was one pretty mismatched panel gap on the front, b) the rear seats don't recline at all, and c) although it has technically the same range as his 3, it takes twice as long to charge (about 10-12 hours to 80%). It takes a lot of juice to move ~3 TONS of vehicle, which means that it's got a pretty short leash. It's FAST though, for ~3 tons. And the rear wheels moving 10-15 degrees to cut down turning radius is slick (although the jury's out on the "squircle" steering wheel). But there are a LOT of motors in that truck-- if one breaks you're screwed. And the windshield? >$2500 IF you can find someone to replace it and IF you can get one. Windshield wiper? $75. Tires? $3000. And it's a freaking fingerprint magnet. Anywhere you touch? Fingerprints. It's also a lot smaller inside than I thought it would be. And the truck bed is 3/4 length at best-- I'm pretty sure you're not putting a lot of sheets of plywood back there. It's an attention getter though-- people were all over it in the restaurant parking lot while we were eating. And pulling out? He pretty much shut down the patio. On the way home, people were stopping and staring and pulling up next to you laughing and pointing at it. My buddy's not much of a "hey look at me" guy, but that's going to change with driving this thing around town. And? The lightshow it can do is pretty cool. Useless, but cool. R.

Strangely enough, I had the windshield in my truck shatter when a slab of ice came off the roof of the car in front of me while driving into Boston years ago. I agree, it's a menace no matter the vehicle type.

Apparently you can tint them so they look smoky black. I was surprised by how absolutely gigantic it is. Like, how is it legal, gigantic.

Hmm, I've always heard that the tide waits for no one. Doesn't sound very patient to me.
