A lot of VIN numbers in sequence with mine, so I wouldn't be surprised if I were affected as well. But the Performance Center let me take it home, so I did. I've got my break-in service on Monday, so I'll look into it then.

I was able to take delivery of the car. Finally! After they mess that they made of the situation, I told them that they needed to figure it out. They did.
Not the best pic, but after almost 3 months of missteps and errors, I am in the US and got to drive my car for the first time. Relieved.

I received a call from BMW UK apologising for the issues I have had together with a small but welcome gesture of goodwill. They and I hope that this now draws a line in the sand and I can now enjoy my M3 without further issues. Fingers still crossed but quietly optimistic. Mercedes need to take a lesson from BMW...!

Here's an update. Dropped my M4 off at the dealer this morning for the break-in service and my SA just called to say it's ready, but it doesn't show anywhere that the diff was replaced. So I called my contact at BMW ED and she says it shows that it was replaced.
Edit: Just got an email from my SA. BMW ED confirms that it has NOT been repaired. I am lost for words right now. Last edited by 'Cane; 09-19-2016 at 03:58 PM.. Reason: BMW ED is crazy. |

8 week later - REDELIVERY. It also has 14 miles on it now...oh well.
Also both my European plates were missing...wondering if anyone else experienced the same. Dealer is blaming the fact it went back to the factory before it shipped as why they're gone.

I assume that the dealer is right... if the lied then it could be a legal liability. |

Car came in last week after being built July 4th and sitting for a little over two months. I had a great person helping at BMW NA and was communicating with me regularly. After delivery she called me and got me a nice sized parts credit at my local dealer for the delay!
All in all it wasn't an ideal scenario but I do believe BMW did a good job in my particular case. |

My differential was replaced yesterday during my 1,200 mile service. Can't tell/hear any difference. But it's done :-)

I took delivery of my F80 at the end of June. I was affected by this recall. I noticed a slight clunking/thumping noise coming from the rear of the car. They replaced it under the recall and the day I got it back all seemed fine until that evening, when I experienced some serious problems. I was doing a light pull to 100mph and this loud grinding noise came from my gearbox (sounded like Saw 2 ). Got hit with a chassis error and a transmission malfunction which didn't allow me to put the car into "park". Car went back the next morning, to which they found a bolt came loose somehow messing up my driveshaft. They replaced the necessary bolts, but not the driveshaft itself. I just got it back and I'm still hesitant to even abuse the car. Whenever I'm come to a stop, and the car shifts from 2nd to 1st, I can hear the thump again. This is my first M, not to mention the first car I've owned with DCT. Any insight as to whether or not this should happen would be great.

Had the same noise at first and I have not replaced my diff and no problems. You need to just let it wear in a bit. Keep the the car in efficient and double tap to start so your not riding the clutch. Give it a couple hundred miles to see, but if you feel it's beyond that take it back in.

As far as I know, it should not do this every time you slow down. If that's happening, probably have them take a look. I can definitely see why you're nervous given that they only replaced the bolts this time around. |

If I stop my car and put the DCT into manual mode, and just shift between 1st and 2nd, there is a slight thump coming from the rear when it goes into 1st. Also, when I stop and let the car go into 1st then continue driving, it's just that smooth like you'd find in a steptronic transmission. Not to mention this is when DCT is in shift mode D1, which is supposed to be "smooth".

It could also be the diff locking up. When I go over a small elevation sideways I here in mine. My car is as smooth as my 335 was, but at first it was a little grabby and had a few rough shifts here and there.
