Ours has just barely begun to start where I am. Last I looked it was supposed to be about 3/4 of an inch worth.

Tons of rain last night and wind all day today but the sun is coming out, although some tress didn't survive the storm.

Rain yesterday. Today is sunny and clear. Right now it's 66F. Cool, crisp, and clean air. High today is 69F. Looking forward to a lovely walk tonight.

Go to any garden center to buy a cheap manual bucket that you can dump every day.

Spend a bit more money and buy a Stratus 4" rain gauge. It is way more accurate, and acceptable to the CoCoRAHS spotter program for reporting daily rainfall measurements. If you have kids (I don't) it is also a lesson in responsibility in having to record/report/dump the gauge every day.

Above that, something like the 8" Rainwise 111 wired tipping bucket rain gauge lets you see the totals from inside and drains as it counts.

Beyond that, drop the coin for a decent prosumer weather station like the Davis VP2. It comes with a wind gauge, rain gauge, andtemperature/humidity sensor. You can add an Internet logger and send your data to Weather Underground (train wreck these days) and other sites for the public to view/use.

The top level of insanity is having multiple weather stations in your back yard, and scrounging federal auctions to buy decommissioned commercial airport weather stations just because.

My 2018 collection of rain sensors, including the manual Stratus, Davis VP2 aerocone tipping bucket, and a prototype haptic (counts raindrops by sound) that I was testing with the manufacturer:

First freeze warning of the fall up for tonight, with tomorrow and Thursday night forecast to be a few degrees colder than tonight. Looks like the 2021 growing season is over.....

Our overnight low this morning was sub-freezing on every outdoor thermometer in our yard. It struggled to reach 50F/10C this afternoon. Overnight lows are forecast to be sub-freezing through the weekend, so it looks like the 2021 growing season is over for sure.....
