A lot of IWC here. Thinking about getting a vintage 18k. Thoughts on brand?

I like mine because it is subtle and classic. One thing to note on mine (Portofino 8-day wound), they are known to run a little fast. In other words, after a month or so it will have gained a few minutes. I thought this was an issue with mine specifically but read online that others had similar issues. Not sure if the other IWC models have the same issue.

I'm no watch expert but think it might be due to the spring on the 8-day. Not a big deal, just something I noticed but can live with...just have to reset every month or two.

Well I bought mine used to test drive it before buying new (I tend to do that, so that way if I end up not liking it I don't lose a ton, used I'll get practically what I paid).

That said its my first IWC and I love the simplicity and subtlety. I also own a rolex explorer, not much of a fan of shouty watches. And this IWC is making my rolex explorer (one of the simplest rolex models) seem shouty lol. I'm quite liking the brand and the fact I can answer "what kind of watch is that" with "IWC" rather than "rolex" since most people give a raised eyebrow at the latter.

In regards to vintage IWC, I try to avoid all that random stuff on ebay that goes cheap (same with Jaeger LeCoultre, Ulysse Nardin, and some others.) As they aren't really much of anything unless they have historical significance like the IWC mark series or JLC Deepsea stuff of vintage, but that gets expensive. Basically 90's forward is going to get you pieces worthwhile with these Richemont owned brands.

Pulled trigger on large 18K IWC, needed a simple black dress watch. Next will be a nicer strap. I like the 852 years...

New York Yankee, Mariano Rivera has a special edition Hublot piece coming out. Its debuting at the Switzerland watch show. It’s a nice color blue leather band, with a rose gold case. The number 42 at the twelve o’clock position, in diamonds. It’s a chronograph, with the style of a baseball. I love Mo, however, I’m not a fan of the watch. It’s a little too busy for my liking.

Wow! Very nice, I guess you had the case and bracelet polished as well.

An homage to the 6542 Albino GMT.
