Heard it so many times and finally looked it up. Thanksgiving, ''modelled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English Pilgrims of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people. Called the American Thanksgiving not to confuse with the Canadian holiday of the same name'.

Yes! Alice's Restaurant is traditionally played on radio shows on Thanksgiving morning (US). Not sure why, but it happens every year. I've never heard it played on any other day..
