Photo of a Opiliones (aka - Harvestmen) I took in Costa Rica. While in the same family as spiders, they are an old order more closely related to scorpions (they have found fossils of these that are 400-million-year-old!).

One night while looking for new creatures to photograph, I spotted what looked like large, primitive spider. By the time I had set up my tripod and put the flashlight back on it, the spider (actually a harvestmen) was gone. Two nights later, I found another one, which quickly retreated from the light and disappeared. Now I was on a mission with a new plan. My last night in Costa Rica, I spotted another one, but this time kept the bright light away from it, captured it, and moved the harvestmen to a sandy spot where I would have time for a photo before it got away. This one actually had a set of crab claw like appendages on the second set of legs. A bonus, an ant attacking the harvestmen as seen in the foreground.

I have a new tenant.....
One of us will be leaving....
Dead or alive. I hope animal control will come, otherwise nothing good will happen and I like snakes.
I didn't think they came in green though.
I tried to catch it but just pissed it off and it made a funny noise

Northern Pacific alright. Had one in my yard eariler this spring, but I only saw it once and we kept our distance. I also have kings and gophers in the yard, so I figure they all work it out themselves. Nice photo btw

Dave,
Every time I see some of those Sony pictures it makes me sad and hearing from you how good it is does not help. Glad you got the nice prize! Great picture, I like seeing them with the plumage.

Ed,
That was the species I came up with but since it is going to live under my house and could possibly have access to my cats, leaving it is a no go.

If it makes you feel any better, when I leave for France this Saturday, the a9 will stay home, sitting atop the 500/f4. The Canon 5D MkIV is a superior camera for travel and landscape, with better dynamic range, resolution and "good enough" AF.

The only place that the a9 takes a giant lead is in shooting birds in flight.

Down the road, an a9R, or something like that, may even the field, but I really think that, over all, Canon is still ahead. I'll be interested to see Canon next AF iteration.

Handheld, out the car window, at 1,000mm:

Coyote In Wildflowers by David Stephens, on Flickr

Sony a9, EF 500mm f/4L IS II, EF 2.0x TC-III, Metabones EF-to-E T Adapter MkV.

Kevin, don't worry, this shot would have been just as good with my 5D MkIV. I almost grabbed it, with the 100-400mm, but I was still in test mode with the a9, working it out at 1000mm. I was lucky that the coyote got far enough away to fit in the frame.

I'm finding that the a9 needs more noise reduction than the 5D MkIV, in many situations. The a9's noise is easy to deal with, but it shows up at ISO 800, or there about.

Took a quick (okay, not so quick) trip to the Great Wall of China on Friday. Was really smoggy - so there's a ton of adjustments to get this to show correctly.

The last sunset of Summer

Meteorological Summer that is.
Here in the UK our Met Office officially classes summer as ending on 31 August, the date this image was taken.
Looking west from our West Beach is a great place to capture colourful sunsets.
