I met the GORGEOUS chick one night, we started talking blah blah and I asked her major and it was psyc, I asked what she planned on doing with it or what she wants to do with her life. She said, "sales, I want to sell pharmaceuticals"

I almost lost it, but I held it in. Didnt get her # though, she ended up having a b/f

Pysc, Communications, sports management are all under water basket weaving, complete waste of parents money. I met an undergrad Pysc graduate applying for a teller position last year lol

You just spent 60k+, only to get a $10 an hour job

If she got her MD she had to go through the same process any other Dr. had to. Residency, Dissertation, etc.

PsyD on the other hand.... is honestly the easiest way to get called Doctor.

Most therapists see therapists. Some times people need to get shit off their chest and listen.

Lots of people like to dismiss psychology for whatever reason. But I hope to god none of you ever have to witness the behavior of a family member with a psychological disorder (Schizophrenia, etc). It is sad. For some reason mentally healthy people have a really tough time understanding that some people have problems that aren't physical.

Clinical psych.... Oh boy. We have a Clin.Psy program at my current school. Definitely not the brightest bulbs. They only go to school 3 days a week.

They cant prescribe either. Theyd need an additional 2-4 years of school.

So anyone who obtained an undergraduate in psychology wasted money? That is kinda ignorant to say, no? What about school counselors that help students every year and get paid shit, but enjoy what they are doing?

Tying in two majors that don't lead to a Doctorate is more opinion based than fact based.

Not even worth adding much, you hit the nail on the head.

Lost my best friend due to a mental condition being devalued.

I have respect for people in the mental health profession. But, the caveat is, that nobody with a BS in biology would be any help in the actual full diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of somebody with a psychiatric disorder.

I know people at my school with degrees in everything from business to anthropology. I just think its a bit of an easier way out to go into the medical field. All whom I've spoken with say that they had a harder time in the beginning due to not having as much of a biology background as others.

I'm not disagreeing with anything anyone has said. I just believe as a whole mental health problems are strongly devalued by society. People don't realize for the most part how devastating even things like depression can be for someone. If someone is depressed some people tell them to, "Suck it up" or something similar. It's rarely that simple.

As far as the comment about crazy chicks getting into the psych profession because of their own issues made me crack up. Mirror image of one of my exs, and she's still bat shit crazy.

I just saw this, and it made me wonder - why does EVERYONE these days insist on being called doctor?

First it was the dentists - fine, they are doctors who wanted to specialize in the oral cavity, whatever. Then, there were the PsyDs and Podiatrists. After that, we got the PharmDs and PhDs. I don't understand how putting medicine into a container and then selling it makes your a doctor, but okay. And I DEFINITELY don't understand how making a living critiquing 15th century literature makes you a doctor, so whatever. But NOW, I hear we're going to barraged by "Nurse Doctors" (ND's)? It's just getting to the point of being absurd. We might as well start giving doctoral degrees to garbagemen and gardeners, too.

End of rant

I would say dentists are doctors. They specialize. Podiatrists are doctors. They can do below ankle surgery. Most of their teaching is the same as any MD. PsyD.... ehhh.... Chiropractor....nah.....PT....no.....Pharmacist... .no......

Nurses are smart, but not doctors. They know cause and effect but not the reasons.

A lot has to do with insurance companies pushing it so they can limit the # of people you see before winding up at your final specialist. Such as with physical therapists.

The simple solution would be for you to come to terms with the fact that the word, "doctor" is a homonym.
