Verstappen makes final penalty-free power unit change at Spanish GP

The championship leader has moved onto his fourth different power unit. He has reached the maximum limit drivers may use in the 10th round of 24.
Some of the power units he has run will be available for re-use at later rounds. However Verstappen is now likely to face a 10-place grid penalty at some point over the remaining 14 rounds.
Red Bull experienced a problem with one of Verstappen’s power units during practice for the Canadian Grand Prix two weeks ago. He was forced to stop running while the team investigated the fault.

Pretty sure the PU are FIA sealed and only specific external repairs and diagnostic work can be done.

All this extra scrutiny means Merc can't easily thwart Ham as they were before.

I don’t know, MB is trying to build RUS’s confidence since HAM is leaving. Still plenty of ways to do it on the down low.

Can’t say I blame them but they are gonna treat RUS as #1 driver.

RUS is a mediocre driver. Every time he gets close he freaks out and loses it. He’s quick in qualifying no doubt, but his race pace just isn’t there. They literally had to ‘weaken’ Ham to keep him off the podium and behind Russ last round. I’m not sure how they are going to keep it up with excuses when their are more eyes on them now.

I’m supposed to believe in 4 months time Ham and RUS switched places, and it has nothing to do with Merc saving face for allowing Ham to walk?

I don’t give it many - Lew is going to destroy Charles. You don’t become a 7 time champion and have 100 race wins and literally be at the top of the podium every race, plus win 3rd last season by being “mediocre”

Ham is the best pure drive on the grid. Better tire management, better race pace, better rain driving, better wheel to wheel than anyone. Has he lost a step? I don’t think so, because that’s the only way anyone else has a chance: but we’ll see.

Agreed - Ham is mediocre at best without his 80-100 more hp than the rest of the field. Any of us could have won 6 WDCs in that car, in fact, we would have won 7 because losing to Ros totally laughable. Then he got humbled when Max beat him in the 2nd fastest car and despite what we all knew was cheating when Bot was ordered to crash in Hungary. End of the day, he isn't going to be able to go to Ferrari at 41 years old and be able to enter a team that is fully behind Lec and do much when he can't even beat Rus in the same car who is nowhere near Lec's level.

Nothing to see. It's fp1/2. They're testing lots of things, including full fuel runs to dial in the car. Not every lap is a quali prep lap. Fp3 is usually more telling, but still not perfect.

Waiting to see if Serge can shake off the bad form that's blighted him in the recent races but in a car admitted by Marko with mis built front suspension that's still being sorted. I expect he will go much better at Catalunya with the Spanish theme being a help and a set up hopefully to get him to Q3.

FP3 top four separated by under 1/10 sec ! Nothing in it preparing for Q runs as both Mercs dropped down to 5th and 6th with Serge just behind those.
