YEAH, THAT FACE. I like it. PLease be done with iterations of 00s cars for 20 years. Im ready for smth to like again. Otherwise I keep thinking my Z4C and E90 were peak designs and everything else since is like just not much of an improvement and last 5 years is a full on deterioration.

German engineering is a little conservative. Give the engineers some time and they will outclass whatever is out there.

“Fastest electric toaster ever”

At this point EVs are just goofy. These will never be drivers cars—just overproduced appliances supported by flashy statistics.

Wake me up when someone has produced a lightweight, simple EV that is actually engaging to drive. Don’t care about HP numbers. I am sure I will be waiting a long long time…

In two generations we are going to be suffering population collapse. Young people’s minds are being polluted with nonsense from people who hate humanity. That’s FAR more dangerous than anything that might be happening to the planet.

Also, as the grid continues to get greener and battery tech improves, the gap between the CO2 footprint of EVs and ICE vehicles will grow even larger, in even more favor of EVs relative to today.

But go on.
I won’t argue any point you’re making… it’s the basis of your argument that’s false. You don’t need to worry about your carbon footprint, that’s a marketing term made up by the oil industry and latched onto by the green brigade.

Atmospheric carbon was so low prior to the Industrial Revolution it was close to threatening plant life (below a certain point photosynthesis becomes difficult). The earth is 20% greener now than it was in 2000, we haven’t had a significant destructive hurricane in a decade, and it’s actually colder now than it was 100 years ago.

There are tons of things we should be doing to clean up our environment. Ignoring those to focus on CO2 is ridiculous and only fosters money laundering and control while making our environment worse.

There are reasonable discussions to be had about electricity impact on environment, battery production on environment and other factors. But you are categorically and factually wrong in claiming EV’s are hurting the environment more than they help. It is proveably a false statement. It goes beyond misinformation, it is a lie.

Reasonable alternative argument: just because EV’s don’t directly produce CO2 doesn’t mean they are currently a savior for the environment.

While it is provable that EV’s are currently better for emissions long term and likely to get even better in the future, there are environmental costs in production. Those should be discussed and evaluated. The more the world and the Us turns to renewable energy (currently at an all time high and [...]
Your reasonable alternatives are spot on.

Looks cool but we don't need more 5000lb behemoths with 1000+ hp. Basically unusable (and dangerous) on the street and absurdly heavy for the track. I'd love to see BMW focus on weight reduction. No expectation to go back to the days of 3000 lbs, but just keeping it around 4000 would do wonders for the handling characteristics.

Also who is this for? Rich people who pretend to care about the environment but buy a car with a massive battery that requires a huge initial carbon hit in terms of mining and processing, and then sell the car a year later to buy the newest model?

BMW's approach is to solve for the appliance nature of big power current offerings. There is so much opportunity to design an engaging, intelligent driving experience than a potentiometer on massive electric power. Most of the comments are out of touch with what BMW is working on. Reading through the comments I was reminded of this article which is worth sharing again.

BMW Says First M Electric Sedan Will “Beat Everything You’ve Ever Seen”

According to BMW M's boss, the EV's quad-motor powertrain can deliver as much as 1,341 hp

https://www.carscoops.com/2024/06/bm...uve-ever-seen/
  • The Neue Klasse-based model is being tested with four electric motors.
  • This potent new EV should be the quickest-acceleration BMW ever.
  • An 800-volt electrical architecture will underpin the model.

A few short years ago, the idea of an all-electric car from the BMW M brand sounded like sacrilege, but such a car is in the works, and based on statements made by the M division’s boss, it will be extraordinary.

BMW has been working on a powerful, quad-motor setup for quite some time and is expected to launch its first Neue Klasse-based performance sedan in 2026 or 2027. It will be sold alongside the combustion-powered M3 and M boss Frank van Meel has said the powertrain is good for as much as 1,341 hp (1,000 kW) or one Megawatt of power.

According to van Meel, the new EV “will beat everything you have ever seen.” To achieve such a lofty statement, BMW is developing its own electric motors and believes that like the S68 engine of the M5 and the S58 of the M3 and M4, its e-motors “will be a benchmark.”

Motor Trend anticipates the new electric performance sedan from the German brand will be the fastest accelerating car in its history, demolishing the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in less than 3 seconds. The e-motors could be water and oil-cooled, and an 800-volt electrical architecture will enable ultra-fast DC charging. Van Meel has also revealed that the batteries will have a different chemistry than those of other Neue Klasse models and that they will have an improved cooling system.

The use of electric motors won’t just allow BMW to chase monumental power figures. The automaker has engineered a system that can control the car’s chassis and precisely alter the torque at each wheel, improving the car’s dynamics and making BMW “feel like Alice in Wonderland,” according to van Meel. BMW’s M boss added it will have “neutral, linear, and predictable” handling.

BMW is also considering a two-motor performance EV that is sold exclusively with rear-wheel drive. This model would use similar hardware and software but have less grunt than the quad-motor version. A fully-fledged M version of the first Neue Klasse X SUV could also be a future addition to the firm’s EV family.

Note: This article contains renderings from Fully Leaded that are not related to nor endorsed by BMW.
Exciting news. I hope they don't limit this to a few units.

This ridiculous chasing of HP is pointless. It’s not even remotely fun to have over 1000 hp on tap with immediate torque. I bet it gets old to accelerate like that after a few thousand times.

Tesla Plaids lost half their value in 2 years. I'm not going to buy an expensive EV new, it just doesn't make financial sense right now.

I don't see 3,500lb in any EV happening. ICE 2 series can't even do that. To have batteries for 300mile range you would have to have a carbon fiber monocoque and bare features to reach that target, and (most) people want all the creature comforts as something with those specs would be in the $90K+ range.

no one cares about acceleration figures of an EV... It's pretty much limited by tires traction, every manufacturer including the Chinese can do this. What's interesting and what they should focus on is the weight and handling.

With a 300 mile range, but as soon as you step on the accelerator, it goes down to 100 mile range.
