But the word has been known to be used as a verb, meaning to search the internet. Now what you use to do so is entirely your choice

True except I will probably not spend $160 on a filter... a UV coated Hoya is like $15 bucks... thats just fine for me

I forget who for sure, but I think it was either Fred Miranda or Shutterbug did a comparison and the more expensive filters were almost distortion free. Dave

Well I wasn't serious about the $15 part but I have a $60 tiffen on my 16-35L. I'm not gonna spend much more than that on ANY filter, regardless of what lens it's on. Those things cost $1.25 to make, maybe $2. 200% profit is a rip off

I used to be anal about having UV filters on all my lenses for protection, but I've gotten used to not having them. Lens hoods do a good enough job protecting my lenses.

Shoot, now you're going to force me to find the comparison test to show you the value of good glass in front of your glass. I'll be back after I dig them up again. I'm using Hoya Pro-something. BTW, some people view a UV filter only as protection of the lens. That's a useful view, BUT, if you take many photos outside of the "golden hours", like anytime from 11a.m. to 3p.m., a high quality UV filter will enhance your images giantly. Dave

On filters, while for casual shooting, you dont need some type of $200 UV filter, but get a good $60 one is not out of line IMO, in protection + enhencement of image on a $1000+ lens. I, too, cannot justify B+W high prices (which I am sure are of supreme quality, but just a bit much) .. So, what I have is B+W MC UV filters that run decent price at around $70-80, and Hoya CPLs for about $100. For the double cashback thing in August, I am gonna go shop for some B+W CPLs if I really can get 16% cashback.. Shxt, I think I just found what I might be shopping between 8/10 - 8/17... My fiancee already told me that she's looking at some food processors... <--which we have like 2 already in the house.. bah..
