As has been stated elsewhere, Public figures get to be remembered in their totality not just what appeases their public image.

The guy was worth 800-million (maybe a few hundred less) I'm most confident he has a team that attends to his charitable foundations - the fact we know about his charities...

You have this weird perceived idea that the two parties involved, who agreed to resolution, doesn’t meet your standard? Who are you to cast this judgment?
You act like he hasn’t done anything “good”, and you get to dismiss his existence as being fouled because he was “unfaithful” to his vows?

You’re arrogance astounds me with the idea that we’re supposed to prove to YOU that he wasn’t a “good” and not deserving of mourning as he died horrifically with his daughter, daughters friends and his close friends.

Over the last 20 years, Kobe Bryant has granted more than 250 wishes of children battling life-threatening illnesses through the Make A Wish Foundation, how many did you grant? How much mind or time did you put into charity? Ever stir a pot at a food kitchen?

I get that your angry towards his, what you would consider, undeserving success, and undeserving mourning, but your callousness at the time his family is completely shattered is astounding. You talk about morality and goodness, while you shit over the family that loved him with hours of his demise....there hasn’t even been a funeral yet.

Kobe Bryant has supported the following charities:

After-School All-Stars
Aid Still Required
Cathy's Kids Foundation
Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation

Could you please list all the “good” things you do, so we can shit all over that?
Bryant was charged with Sexual Assault/Rape:

From Wiki:

On July 18, the Eagle County District Attorney's office filed a formal charge against Bryant for sexual assault. If convicted, Bryant faced probation to life in prison.

Colorado Sexual Assault Definition

Colorado Revised Statues Sections 18-3-402: Sexual Assault, and 18-3-404: Unlawful Sexual Contact

Sexual Assault – Knowingly sexually penetrating or sexually intruding upon a victim by any of the following means:
The defendant:
Causes the victim to submit against his or her will
Knows the victim submits as erroneously believes the defendant to be his or her spouse
Engages in the sexual activity while claiming to offer a medical treatment, but it’s inconsistent with reasonable medical practices
The victim is:
Incapable of understanding the sexual conduct
Unconscious, asleep, or otherwise can’t consent and the defendant knows this
Under 14 years old and the defendant is at least 4 years old and not his or her spouse
15 or 16 years old and the defendant is at least 10 years older and not his or her spouse
Detained in a jail, prison, or hospital where the defendant has authority over the victim and uses this authority to coerce the victim into the act

I'm sorry, but I refuse to accept that continually cheating on your wife and family is erased by doing charity work. If anything, it just compound the issue, because now you're spending time helping others instead of bonding with and taking care of your own family.

If your girlfriend cheated on you would doing charity work make up for it?

I had a question about the helicopter. It was built in 1991 so it is 29 years old. That seems ancient. Kobe was 12 when that thing was brand new. Is it normal to have such old helicopters still flying? I read an article saying that modern helicopters are safer now, but this would not qualify as modern. It did not have a black box or terrain warning system which a newer chopper might.

As for Kobe himself he was no saint and had many faults including committing sexual assault while he was married I believe. He did many positive things in his life but also made some mistakes. Sexual assault is a serious crime so it isn't something we should downplay. It's a complicated situation for sure as to how we should view his life not sure I have the answer to that but just wanted to put this thread out there for folks to share there thoughts on the situation. He was a husband and a father trying to raise his kids well and will be missed by them.

I think the crash more had to do with flying into heavy fog instead of turning around. Even the LAPD helicopters were grounded that day. Maybe the pilot had pressure from an outside party to continue flying. Like from his boss or from Kobe or from someone else that really wanted to get to the destination and didn't want to turn around out of fear of losing his job. Helicopter pilot seems like a pretty good job, even more-so for someone famous.

I think some of the agencies that were grounded had in part to do with the fact that they need to see to perform their primary function as opposed to Bryants helicopter that was a point A to point B exercise, so instrument flight would be all that was required.

Police, Rescue and New helicopters rely on seeing to do their primary function.

Yea, I don't know. I know nothing about flying helicopters. What I know is that...

A flight tower told the pilot he was flying too low to be picked up on radar
Another flight tower recording says "You're still too low level for flight following at this time"
The pilot contacted Burbank Airport at 9:30am (15mins before the crash) not sure why he contacted them
The helicopter then circled the LA zoo at least 6 times at a very low altitude, prsumably the pilot was doing that to wait for the fog to clear
9:40am the helicopter turned towards a mountain
9:45am it crashed into it
The helicopter was traveling at 176mph, which is just about the top speed the aircraft can go (178mph)

He goes to church on Sundays, gives his loose change to the unfortunate when he can. Oh and he runs (scratch that) walks for cancer marathons when his body is able.

Gosh, now leave him alone

We live in a world where major public figures cheat on their wives, hire prostitutes, say impossible-to-defend statements, lie, take advantage of... Its a sad age but it is what it is. Charity work DEFINITELY does not make up for that but his wife having stood by his side is her deal, and I think most followed suit. We aren't perfect, we've all done something right?

Looks like he lost control of the aircraft as it veered left and fell from the sky into the hill. Could have been a bird strike as there was no visibility so even with instrumented flying it is dangerous when you have zero visibility. Kobe may have been putting pressure on the pilot to get there on time so he took the risk with the fog and somehow lost control and made a mistake. God forbid there was some sort of struggle in the cockpit we have no recorder so we'll never know.

So we’re going down this road of infidelity judgment? That’s between You and your spouse.
If your spouse cheats, and you forgive her, it has nothing to do with anyone but you and her.
People calling you out is offside. It’s none of your damn business.

Can we get off this presumptive “moral judgment” ride?

Well, no. It is more than just between you two. It is between everyone who is affected and influenced by you two. To believe otherwise is just willful blindness.

Ah! Excellent

I am now entitled to intercede on my neighbours previous indiscretion, after all, their wishes and solutions are irrelevant.
Perhaps tomorrow I can comment and ridicule his charity choices, because I don’t believe their decisions adequately meet my moral standards.

Who my wife and I think are “affected and influenced” is up to us, not you. You can’t stand on the outside and demand justice, because you “claim” your were influenced! That crazy.

Sorry you were “influenced” by Bryant’s past indiscretions, and you feel it’s important that everyone knows your feelings, on the day he and his daughter were killed.

Um...what evidence do you have that he “continually” cheated on his wife? There’s one indiscretion that we know about...unless you know more that you want to share with us...

Charity work is not only about giving your money, it’s also about giving your time and positively impacting other people’s lives. That may not mean much to you (and others on this thread) but honestly, it’s not about what any of us think b/c the people impacted by his time, money or people hired to run his charities were thankful. You and others can choose to $%#t on it if that makes you feel better, but it doesn’t change the fact that he impacted others in a positive way...and there’s nothing you can do or say that will change that fact.

My son is on CSUCI baseball team. Last year they did a bunch of winter practice at Mamba Center but tonight they are the first collegiate team to practice at the Dodgers new indoor field

He took my soccer turf shoes so he would be allowed on the field

And FTR, I could care less about his cheating. Rich/Famous people whether they are athletes, musicians, actors, politicians or what ever have it practically handed to them daily. And I suspect a high percentage take advantage of it. The experts at Divorce Magazine note that about 45-50 percent of married women and 50-60 percent of married men cheat on their spouses.

Ignoring your snarky attitude... Yes, a ton of child abuse, molestation, bad parenting that psychologically affect children, etc etc could be prevented if neighbors, teachers, family members, etc kept a look out and spoke up about what they saw. Generally first starting by having a good relationship with those people to where you might be able to influence them to behave different, otherwise calling the police if it escalates to that.

You're not interceding on anyone's wishes, you are offering advice and looking out for others. It's up to them to take your advice, no one is forcing them and they are free to take it or ignore it or question it, and the friendship remains the same even if they choose not to take it. I've done this with all my friends and neighbors. To me, it's what friendship is... looking out for another. Not a single one has a problem with it because they know it comes from a place of caring.

If a little girl is being molested, you will notice her behavior change immediately. You can then ask the parents what's going on, ask the girl, etc and go from there.

I have good relationships with my neighbors kids to where they tell me anything and everything, even stuff they don't like that happens with their parents. Since I have a good relationship with the parents, I can talk to them in private and suggest different ways of handling the situation that turned into one that the child didn't like. For example, if the kid argued with his parent and the parent decided to hit him to shut him up. Well you don't particularly want to beat the will to argue out of your children, because that's a very useful skill in defending yourself, in asking for raises at work, etc yourself as an adult.

And your act of doing nothing certainly has influence on their lives, because the situation perpetuates because you are not saying something.

Interesting how Kobe's name entered my home a few days before his death. My wifes sister just moved to Newport Beach from San Diego. Her and her husband have lived there before but now could really afford to enjoy living in a nice area, about 5 - 10 mins from Kobe Bryant in fact. Anyway, she isn't the kind of person that cares much about celebrities or athletes and my wife and her talk about 2-3 times per month. Well she sends a text to my wife saying "I'm working out next to Kobe Bryant." I guess they were members of the same gym. When my wife told me that I thought, how cool must that have been, working out near an athlete of that magnitude (this was 2 days before the crash). That night I was fumbling around in instagram and I came to a video of Kobe vs Jordan, I watched every moment of them play against each other in awe, Jordan being my athlete hero as a boy growing up (along with the cubs).

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

The evidence that I have is his wife citing that the number one reason for their divorce, then posting on twitter that he was still cheating a year ago.

Those cheating statistics in my experience, make people less willing to marry and trust their spouse, to trust and admire the opposite sex, etc etc.
Which I feel helps perpetuate things like feminism, and anti-men movements, and metoo movements, etc etc. It certainly doesn't help them.

I still struggle with trust issues, because I've watched my entire family (parents and aunts and uncles) all divorce by the time I was 17. Which influenced the relationships with the only two girlfriends I had, in that I wouldn't get close to them because "you're just gonna leave" and I don't speak up for my needs in a relationship because my needs, even to this day are ignored and when I speak up about needs I get responded with argument about why I don't need those things. Which is kinda a different topic I won't get into. But you get the point.
