When I was 6 or 7 our neighbors son had a blue Dodge Super Bee. I thought it was awesome. I was sad the day he wrapped it around a tree and totaled it.

My now deceased uncle had one of these. He was quite the bon vivant. Artist, played Triple A ball and had an try-out with the Dodgers...super cool guy. Finally settled in as an art instructor until he retired.

The only one with a little grunt was the Mecham. It was almost my first car but the interior looked and felt like it was put together out of lego blocks. I think it had something like 175 to 200 HP.

I ended up with the Scirocco. Only 75 HP and almost as fast as the Trans Am.

In 1986, I rode with some friends in a Sirocco from Denton to Dallas, to "Confettis" night club. We returned with 6 people in that car. Yea.....6.

And he (my dad) had this cool car. He thought it was cooler than a vette. But he was never a car guy. But is the first car I ever got to steer.

They were all 2 door coupes. No grand coupe's like today.

No doubt. The Dart my parent had was like a mini-tank. The Plymouth Fury III was like a M1A1. You could drive through anything.

In NZ we went with "Carless Days" so you would have a sticker on your car with "Wednesday" on it meaning you couldn't use it on Wednesdays. You for the most part got to pick your day, so workers who needed their car could choose a weekend day. I remember being sick on our carless day and my mother was worried about driving me to the doctor and getting a ticket.

And the local newspaper ran a comic strip called "Carlos Daiz" which was penned by my Dad's graphic artist from his printing factory.
